Beetlejuice Beetlejuice
36 years after the original, Tim Burton's Beetlejuice sequel made its highly anticipated debut in cinemas in September 2024, receiving critical acclaim.
The long-awaited follow-up to the 1988 supernatural comedy sees Michael Keaton reprise his iconic role as the mischievous Beetlejuice, joined once again by Winona Ryder as Lydia Deetz and Catherine O'Hara as the eccentric artist Delia Deetz.
The film follows three generations of the Deetz family as they return to Winter River following an unexpected family tragedy.
The Deetz residence, New Jersey, USA
As you would expect, there are special effects and stunning sets galore, including the central ghostly Deetz residence, which has been shrouded in black in homage to Delia’s late husband Charles.
During the spooky season Airbnb invited guests into a specially created replica of the Deetz home movie set in Hillsborough Township, New Jersey, allowing visitors to immerse themselves in the surreal, haunting universe of the film.

For a limited period over Halloween only, reports British newspaper The Independent, selected guests were able to explore the Beetlejuice residence, with its disorientating chequered hallway and spaces filled with Delia’s spooky sculptures and paintings.
Guests were treated to a guided tour by Delia’s longtime assistant, while Delia herself gives an art class from beyond the grave.

In the attic, visitors encounter the Maitlands’ meticulous model of Winter River, Connecticut. In the film Lydia’s rebellious teenage daughter, Astrid, discovers the mysterious model of the town in the hidden room and the portal to the Afterlife is accidentally opened.
Sadly, visitors were not able to stay overnight in the one-off mansion, but Airbnb hosted the lucky few in nearby accommodation as part of the experience.

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1
For many, Harry Potter is one of the greatest sagas of all time. With eight blockbuster movies, the Wizarding World has raked in £8.6 billion ($6.8bn) so far, according to Forbes.
Thanks to a multimillion-dollar budget, each movie offered spectacular sets that brought the story to life. While the Weasley family's tumbledown home was very much smoke and mirrors, some of the franchise's locations were real...
Harry's childhood home, Suffolk, UK
Potterheads will remember this iconic home from Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1, the penultimate movie in the much-loved franchise.
In the film, this historic pad was used as the location for Harry's childhood home. In fact, film makers used the much of real-life medieval town Lavenham, Suffolk, to create the wizarding town of Godric’s Hollow, the place where Harry was born and where his parents were killed at the hands of evil Lord Voldemort.
Harry's childhood home, Suffolk, UK
The historic timber-framed house dates back to the 14th century and is now one of the most photographed houses in England, thanks to its wizarding connection. It also happens to be one of the most historically significant medieval properties in Britain.
Known locally as De Vere House, it once belonged to the aristocratic De Vere family, who lived here between the 14th and 17th centuries. Though light-filled and chic, it appears almost untouched since their day.
Harry's childhood home, Suffolk, UK
The property appeared hauntingly derelict in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1, but in reality, the De Vere House is chic and cosy with spacious rooms and plenty of eye-catching period details.
Grade I-listed, the home has six bedrooms, three reception rooms and four bathrooms, while carved timber ceilings, wonky stone fireplaces, lead mullion windows and a medieval staircase add to its magic.
In 2018, the period property sold for an unsurprisingly huge £950,000 ($1.1m) and is now a luxury bed and breakfast which can be booked via Airbnb.

Chitty Chitty Bang Bang
A beloved childhood classic, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang tells the charming story of a down-on-his-luck inventor and single father, Caractacus Potts, whose creations never quite work out as planned.
However, when Caractacus finally invents a flying car, he takes his children and his soon-to-be romantic interest on a spectacular adventure to the fictional land of ‘Vulgaria.’
Based on a novel by Ian Flemming and adapted for the screen by Roald Dhal, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang is packed with catchy songs, whimsical costumes and, of course, the antics of Van Dyke.
Cobstone Mill, Buckinghamshire, UK
The iconic windmill, which served as the Potts’ family home in the 1968 film, hit the market in 2023 for the first time in 36 years with an asking price of £9 million ($11.5m).
The historic home is believed to have been built in 1816 and is in Buckinghamshire, England, not far from London.
Seen here in images taken from ITV News, Cobstone Mill used to grind cereal until 1873. The property was later damaged by a fire and required substantial renovations before it was in a fit condition to be used as a film set for the classic movie.
Cobstone Mill, Buckinghamshire, UK
After its role in Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, the property was bought at auction in the early 1970s by film director Roy Boulting and his wife, actress Hayley Mills.
“It was love at first sight,” Mills wrote of the windmill in her 2021 memoir Forever Young, according to The New York Times, although she also described the property as “utterly impractical.” Mills never actually lived in the windmill, as the marriage sadly ended before the renovations could be completed.
Cobstone Mill, Buckinghamshire, UK
Between the main house, which was substantially expanded in 2016, and the windmill itself, the property offers six bedrooms and four bathrooms.
The original mill workings are a key feature of the interior of the grade II-listed home and its sails have been fully restored. The entire property, comprising mill, home and pool, sits on 36.7 acres (14.8ha) and boasts breathtaking views of the Chiltern countryside and the village of Turville, which some people may recognise from the 1990s English sitcom The Vicar of Dibley.
Surprisingly, the property was not snapped up immediately but sold in late 2024 after its price was slashed to just under £7 million ($8.9m).

Basic Instinct
Widely recognised as one of the most memorable movies of the early 1990s, with many Academy and Golden Globe Award nominations, Basic Instinct starred Michael Douglas and Sharon Stone, who will forever be remembered for her infamous crossed-legs scene in the film.
Playing mysterious sociopath novelist Catherine Tramell, it was Stone’s breakthrough role, catapulting the actress to international stardom in films that would include Casino and The Specialist.

While Stone and Douglas were the undisputed stars of the film, the Basic Instinct movie-set house in Carmel-by-the-Sea, where Catherine Tramell is questioned about the murder of her boyfriend, came in a close second.
On the craggy shores of the Pacific, with sweeping ocean views, the three-storey house extends across 12,000 square feet (1,115sqm). It has five bedrooms, nine bathrooms, 12 fireplaces and two kitchens, along with stunning grounds. A pool, spa and grotto are hidden away in tropical foliage, reports interiors blog Habitually Chic.

One of the most stunning locations along the central California coast, the home is perched atop a bluff facing the crashing waves at Point Lobos, a rocky promontory (a raised mass of land that projects into a body of water) and marine preserve, providing stunning views from virtually every corner of the house.
While the home has been updated since filming of the film in 1991, its basic layout and modern aesthetic remains.

The house was later purchased by adventurer Steve Fossett, who broke over a hundred records in air and ocean sailing speeds and distances. He disappeared in 2007, after taking off for a pleasure flight in a small aircraft. His body was found a year later.
The house was sold and extended following his wife Peggy’s death in 2017 to include several cottages and this stunning domed two-storey library.
The Basic Instinct movie house last came to auction in 2022 for just under $30 million (£24m), reports British newspaper the Daily Mail. It also appeared in Season Two of Big Little Lies, starring Nicole Kidman and Reese Witherspoon.

Notting Hill
The 1999 romcom Notting Hill immediately captured the hearts of viewers all over the world and flooded London’s northwest neighbourhood with tourists eagerly seeking the quaint Easter egg-coloured buildings, bustling street markets and, of course, the iconic Travel Bookshop.
In the film, the shop provides the perfect 'meet cute' for the charming but awkward bookseller William Thacker (Hugh Grant) and glamorous American film star Anna Scott (Julia Roberts), who immediately strike up an unconventional but utterly adorable romance.
The flat above The Travel Bookshop, London, UK
Fans of the film may be devastated to discover that the flat above The Travel Bookshop, a real storefront on the famous Portobello Road in Notting Hill, was last placed on the market with estate agents Russell Simpson for just shy of £2.4 million ($3.4m) in November 2022, but it unsurprisingly sold within a month.
The three-bed, two-bath maisonette boasts 1,414 square feet (131sqm) of space, copious amounts of natural light and an unbeatable location in the heart of one of London’s most scenic neighbourhoods.
The flat above The Travel Bookshop, London, UK
The first floor of the flat features an open plan kitchen, dining, and living area, which offers original exposed brick, hardwood flooring, and a small fireplace.
White walls and ceilings give the space an airy, open feel and French country-inspired furnishings make the living area particularly cosy.

Heading upstairs via a rustic wooden staircase, the second floor offers two double bedrooms and a full bathroom.
The third floor is entirely devoted to the master suite, which boasts gorgeous, vaulted ceilings and a unique round window, plus a luxurious master bathroom complete with a soaking tub and a steam room.
You can still visit the iconic shop, but you won't find a wide selection of books. These days, it sells mainly gifts related to the famous film.

The Goonies
A cult classic, The Goonies is considered one of the best kids' movies of all time, and for good reason.
It was released back in 1985, but even today it remains the sort of adventure flick you can watch over and over again, which might have something to do with the fact two Hollywood greats, Chris Columbus and Steven Spielberg, were involved in its writing.
The story follows a group of kids, who, after finding a treasure map, set off on an extraordinary adventure.

Mikey Walsh's family home, Oregon, USA
The film opens right here, in the fictional home of Mikey Walsh and his older brother, Brand, played by a teenage Josh Brolin. In Astoria, Oregon, the property was built in 1896 and spans 2,336 square feet (217sqm).
In the movie, the house is kitted out with plenty of amazing 80s design details, including frilly curtains and beige and brown furnishings. While it's undergone a slight makeover since then, it's still very much recognisable from this house tour undertaken by podcast Confused Breakfast.

Inside, fans will remember the living room, which featured in multiple scenes. The room has huge windows and glossy hardwood floors.
There's also a large kitchen, a dining room, three bedrooms and two bathrooms, one of which boasts gold walls and a matching gold bathtub.
The real treasure, however, is the home's beautiful views of the Columbia River, the bridge and the city skyline.

Fans will also know that the attic played a key role in the film. Accessed via a pull-down staircase, this is where Mikey and his friends discover the ancient treasure map, which sets them off on their adventure.
Today, the space is a cosy bedroom with skylights. In November 2022, the house landed on the market for almost £1.3 million ($1.7m) and sold in just 20 days.
According to British newspaper The Independent, it was snapped up by a fan, who has promised to preserve and protect this piece of movie history.

The Wolf of Wall Street
Based on the shocking memoir by former stockbroker and trader Jordan Belfort, Martin Scorsese’s 2013 blockbuster The Wolf of Wall Street is a black comedy starring Leonardo DiCaprio, Margot Robbie, Matthew McConaughey and Jonah Hill.
The controversial film simultaneously glorifies and condemns the drug-fuelled, double-dealing, high-flying escapades of Wall Street traders in the 1980s and met with a mixed public reception for its representations of Belfort and his associates.
But what about its filming locations?
@Long Island Homes and Estates, Regina Rogers/YouTube
Jordan Belfort's mansion, Long Island, USA Douglas Elliman
Since the film focuses significantly on Belfort ‘living large’, what better way to represent his grandiose lifestyle than with a splashy estate? Set in affluent Mill Neck, this opulent 15,000-square-foot (1,400sqm) Long Island mansion, is the backdrop to the story of real-life stockbroker Jordan Belfort.
Situated on five acres (2ha) of lush landscaping, just an hour outside of New York City, the home boasts just about every luxury feature you can imagine, including a wine cellar, brick pizza oven and a hot tub room. No wonder Scorsese jumped at the chance of filming here!

The three-storey estate boasts six bedrooms and seven bathrooms, as well as numerous opulent spaces for entertaining, including a double-height family room with an enormous fireplace and French doors leading out onto the patio.
And while it is easy to imagine Margot and Leo living in luxury in these spaces, only the home’s exterior was used for the film. The infamous pool party scenes were shot on the property’s expertly manicured grounds, which include the saltwater pool, multiple terraces and an ornamental pond with a waterfall.

Despite its countless luxury features, the home was last listed for just under £7.8 million ($10m) in April 2023, perhaps a little less than one might expect from such a huge pile.
The home had originally been placed on the market eight months previously but failed to secure a buyer. Other high-profile series to be filmed here include The Loudest Voice and Elementary.

Mean Girls
Another cult classic that holds a special place in most millennial hearts, Mean Girls shaped the vocabulary and vernacular of an entire generation and remains in the zeitgeist today in the form of a successful Broadway musical.
With an all-star cast including Lindsay Lohan, Rachel McAdams, Amanda Seyfried and Tina Fey, the film transports us back to high school, where an elite clique known as ‘the Plastics’ makes all the rules, until one math-loving outsider decides to rock the boat.

Regina George's house, Toronto, Canada
The leader of the plastics is the ultimate queen bee, Regina George, a privileged, pretty girl whose wealthy parents facilitate her every whim. Of course, Regina had to have a spectacular house, and this whopping 18,000-square-foot (1,672sqm) Toronto mega-mansion just about fit the bill.
Planted on a sprawling two-acre (0.8ha) lot, this immense home is constructed entirely of solid stone and boasts an impressive cobblestone front drive and columned entryway. While only the exterior was used to represent Regina’s home for the film, its interiors are still worth a look.

With nine bedrooms in the main house, four more in the guesthouse, and a total of 14 bathrooms, this property certainly offers plenty of space for hosting your nearest and dearest.
The mansion’s interiors are characterised by opulence and grandeur, epitomised by the cathedral-ceilinged entryway with marble tiled floors and a double staircase.
Other living spaces include a double-height family room with a marble fireplace, media room, pool table/games room, formal dining room, formal living room, a wood-panelled study and staff quarters on the lower level.

Who could forget Regina’s unforgettable master bedroom in the movie, where she tells her pals, “It was my parents’ bedroom, but I made them trade me.”?
The luxurious main bedroom in this pad features a lounge area and walk-in wardrobe bigger than most people’s apartments. Yet, despite its many luxuries, it was hard to shift this one-off property when it first came up for sale in 2015.
The price fluctuated greatly and was last on the market for just shy of £15.7 million ($20m) in January 2024. Let’s hope it has gone to a worthy would-be Regina George.

Hocus Pocus
As far as Halloween movies go, Hocus Pocus is up there with the best of them.
The original hit our screens in 1993 and follows a comedic trio of witches, played by Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker and Kathy Najimy, who are inadvertently brought back from the dead when teenager, Max Dennison, lights the Black Flame Candle on Halloween night.

Edward Scissorhands
Quirky and life-affirming, Edward Scissorhands is one of the most memorable movies from the 90s. The classic flick follows an artificial man with scissors for hands (played by Johnny Depp) whose discovery panics the locals in a small, suburban town.
Over time, however, the residents realise that despite his unusual appearance, Edward is a very sweet guy with lots to give, particularly his free haircuts! Far from being a set, the movie was shot on a cul-de-sac in Lutz, Florida.

The main property from Edward Scissorhands is real and can be found on the very street shown in the film. Seen here in this video by the Duncan Duo Team, it plays the home of Kim Boggs (Winona Ryder), the love interest of Edward.
The former owners, Joey Licalzi and his wife, transformed the unassuming bungalow into a superfan shrine. According to People Magazine, Joey worked as a dishwasher on the film and went to great lengths to mimic the on-screen house, even creating elaborate topiary shrubs, so it looks as if Edward had just given them a snip.

Step through the front door and you’ll find décor and memorabilia dedicated to the Tim Burton classic.

The three-bedroom, two-bathroom home features an open-plan living room, dining space, and kitchen that hasn't been touched since the house was built in 1989, just a year before Edward Scissorhands was filmed.
The unusual home was listed for sale in 2022 for just shy of £549,000 ($700k), which is a sizable asking price, considering the property's small size and quirky décor.
It would also have made a tidy profit for the couple, who paid less than £180,000 ($230k) for the home in 2022. Perhaps unsurprisingly, it failed to sell and was later removed from the market.
