The vice president of the United States, Kamala Harris has lived in a whole host of amazing houses. Since upping sticks to Blair House in Washington to assume her new role in Joe Biden's newly elected administration, the politician has decided it's time to let go of her longtime San Francisco apartment. Despite going on the market mere weeks ago, the property has been snapped up and is pending a sale. Let's take a look inside...
Elected as the district attorney of San Francisco in 2003, it only made sense for Kamala Harris to set up home in the same city where she studied law. The politician bought an apartment in the SoMa district of the Northern California city, keeping hold of it until she put it on the market just two weeks ago.
Now that Kamala Harris has relocated to Washington DC, she has decided to let go of her San Francisco apartment. The new vice president bought the home in 2004 for $489,000 (£358k) but recently put it on the market for $799,000 (£565k).
Just two weeks after being listed the home was snapped up for the asking price, earning a hefty profit for the vice president. Located on top of a boutique building in the South of Market neighbourhood, the home would have been the perfect central hub for Harris when she became district attorney in 2003 as it's located near the Hall of Justice and DA Office.
Built in 1998, the swanky apartment has just one bedroom and two bathrooms spread over 1,000 square feet – fairly spacious for a home in the Golden City. Described as an 'elegant haven', the main open-plan living space has been decorated in warm creams and beiges for the ultimate relaxing space.
The open-plan living room features soaring double-height ceilings and floor-to-ceiling windows that fill this calm modern room with light. The small fireplace is the focal point of the living room and there is capacity for a comfortable seating area and a separate eating space.
The modern kitchen has been fitted with all the latest amenities and plenty of storage space. The sleek grey gloss cabinets sit perfectly alongside sparking white worktops and stainless steel appliances.
No future vice president's home would be complete without a home office. Tucked away from the main living space near the entrance, there is room enough for a small desk and a bookcase in a clever use of an alcove.
At the top of the carpeted stairs from the living area sits the mezzanine bedroom, which looks out over the breathtaking San Francisco skyline. There are thick drapes for privacy and to block out the light for a good night's sleep, but the whole effect is light, airy and bright. It's an amazing city apartment – we're not surprised it's been snapped up!
The bedroom may look small but also boasts an ensuite bathroom and a celebrity-worthy walk-in wardrobe complete with closed units and open shelving. In addition to this, the home comes with a covered parking space, plenty of storage and a washer and dryer, which are hidden away on the lower floor.
In the last two years, the building has had a revamp with a new roof, garage door and intercom system installed. With marvellous views over downtown San Francisco, the sophisticated space would have been the perfect home for an ambitious Kamala Harris.
