Pelé—football’s ‘greatest’ as labelled by FIFA—sadly passed away on December 29th 2022, leaving behind an incredible legacy of football achievements. The former Brazilian forward had been isolating in his beachfront mansion in São Paulo, Rio before losing his battle with metastatic cancer. A few years prior to moving back home to Brazil to recover, Pelé put his summer retreat on the market—an attractive home in the Hamptons, US…

The East Hampton summer home was snapped up by Pelé in 1979 for $156,000 (£130k), according to Dirt. Stretching across 3,400 square foot and totalling six bedrooms and seven and a half bathrooms, the three-time World Cup champion would have plenty of space to relax and unwind. We’re sure he enjoyed holidaying so close to his two New York City-dwelling daughters as well.

Muhammad Ali
Boxing legend, Muhammad Ali decided to hang up his gloves in 1979 and pick up the keys to a magnificent historic estate in Hancock Park, Los Angeles with his third wife, Veronica Porché. The heavyweight champion retired here with his wife and their two children until the couple's eventual divorce seven years later in 1986.

Now known as the Muhammad Ali Estate, the mansion was originally built by John C. Austin—the renowned architect of the Griffith Observatory and Los Angeles City Hall—in 1916. Sitting on 1.5 acres and boasting 14,500 square feet of living space, the luxurious seven-bedroom manse hit the market most recently in 2019 at just under $17 million (£14m).

Starring in a cover story for Ebony magazine a few years after moving in, Ali and his wife gave an inside tour of their Italian Renaissance mansion, and even Mrs. Ali’s exotic bird aviary. According to Thomas Hauser's book Muhammad Ali: His Life and Times, the property’s extravagant furnishings were thanks to Veronica Porché’s style.

While the interiors may seem extraordinary, guests would have marvelled at the estate grounds boasting multiple stone terraces and pool area, hidden gardens and large expanses of lawn. There’s even a large guest house, which would have come in handy with regards to the former heavyweight’s reportedly open-door policy for guests, according to the Ebony story.

Tiger Woods
This record-holding American sport star is widely regarded as one of the greatest golfers of all time, and his bank balance certainly reflects that. Worth a whopping $1.1 billion (£915m), Tiger Woods has invested wisely into his property portfolio. This includes one particular sprawling estate in Florida worth $40 million (£33m), which comes complete with it’s own four-hole practice area, naturally.
Tiger Woods' sprawling estate, Florida, USA
The Floridian manse resides within the exclusive Jupiter Island area, and is so large it consists of three separate addresses. After enduring injuries from a serious car incident in California, the pro golfer recuperated at home. Struggling to move around his manse on crutches, Woods realised just how expansive his estate was as he later revealed in a press conference.

Sitting behind the golfer’s ocean-side property is a small private beach and dock where Woods is said to keep his $20 million (£16.6m) yacht, aptly named Privacy. After a self-imposed hiatus from the golfing world amidst his much publicised marital issues in 2010, we’re sure Tiger enjoys hiding out in his secluded Floridian sanctuary.

Now a national sensation, he entered the NBA in 2009 with the Golden State Warriors, eventually propelling the team to their first title in 40 years and beating the Cleveland Cavaliers. Now set to become one of the few NBA players to sign two contracts worth over $200 million (£166m), he will earn an average of $54 million (£45m) per season, the highest in the NBA.

Tom Brady
American football quarterback Tom Brady has led his teams to a record seven Super Bowl victories. Having spent his first 20 seasons with the New England Patriots, in March 2020 he left and signed a two-year, $50 million (£41.6m) contract with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers before making a sensational return two years later in March 2022 for his 23rd season in Tampa. He married supermodel Gisele Bündchen in 2009 after they met on a blind date. The power couple had an estimated joint net worth of $650 million (£541m) and invested in some serious property before their eventual divorce, which was finalised in October 2022.

In December 2020, NFL star Tom Brady splashed out $17 million (£14.1m) on a mansion on the famed Indian Creek Island in Miami. Known as 'Billionaire Bunker' the high profile island is also home to Ivanka Trump, who purchased her home in the same week as Tom and Gisele. Brady has been linked to Ivanka's father, Donald Trump since 2002, when the former president asked him to judge the Miss USA pageant.

Tom and Gisele moved their family to Florida when Brady was signed to play for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2020. While the location could not be more exclusive, the red-roofed house that currently sits on the plot is far from luxurious. Although there are no images to show the inside of the home, Tom and his ex-supermodel wife planned to tear down the current home and build a new dream eco-friendly property for their family, according to the New York Post.

The home sits on just under two acres of land and comes with more than 200 feet of sought-after private waterfront. The former couple also have access to amenities on the island include a private country club, a golf course, and the safety of the island's very own police force. Despite their divorce the couple are reportedly still going ahead with their development in 'Billionaire Bunker', though it is not sure who will live their permanently, or what the interiors will look like yet. A source told Page Six: "They like to build from the ground up. Look at their Brookline home, this will be like that."
Tom Brady's custom-built mansion, Massachusetts, USA
The Brookline house is a 5-bedroom custom-built mansion designed by legendary architect Richard Landry that the Brady/Bündchens created in an exclusive part of Massachusetts. The house is nearly 10,000 square feet and built to the highest spec with a gym, spa, pool and a huge guest house complete with a yoga studio. It's surrounded by a five-acre plot of land. They sold it for $33 million (£27.5m) when they moved to Florida. With green building practices at the top of Gisele's priority list and their combined passion for design, we're sure that whatever the former duo build on this hugely expensive plot of land will be a lucrative investment!

Michael Jordan
Since beginning his basketball career in 1984 for the Chicago Bulls, legendary sportsman Michael Jordan has redefined what it means to be an NBA superstar. When he finally quit the game for good in 2003, he left with the NBA’s highest-scoring average of 30 points per game and was made a Hall of Fame inductee. Beyond his record-beating time as a player, Jordan has also spent a huge part of his career investing in the sport and in 2010 he became the majority owner of the Charlotte Bobcats. Off the court he has also become a successful businessman, boosting his net worth to $1.5 billion (£1.33b) thanks in part to his Jordan Brand with Nike and several restaurants.

Serena Williams
After practising tennis with her father as a child, Serena Williams turned professional in 1995 and went on to have a glittering career alongside her sister, Venus. The star has won a total of 23 Grand Slam singles titles, more than any man or woman during the open era, and four Olympic gold medals. In September 2017 she gave birth to her first child, Olympia, and later that year she married her partner Alexis Ohanian. With a net worth of $41.3 million (£33m), the star has invested in some impressive homes over the years.

After the sale of her Palm Beach Gardens home in Florida, Serena bought this waterfront estate in Jupiter, Florida for $8 million (£6.6m) in September 2020. After revealing in an interview with Architectural Digest that it was the first property she had bought away from her sister Venus, the star revamped the old home putting her elegant signature style in every room.

Originally built in the 1930s, the power duo reportedly bought the beachy abode in 1984 for just under $2.5 million (£2m). The five-bedroom pad was never on the market, so us property snoops can’t take a peek at the interiors unfortunately. McEnroe and Smyth also own two more Malibu vacation homes in a discreet gated community atop Paradise Cove, purchased in 2013 and 2015 for a total of nearly $25 million (£20m) according to Dirt.
