Tour Ed Sheeran's $36k-a-month rental as he fights $100m lawsuit
Ed Sheeran just signed a lease on Brooklyn's priciest rental, where he lived while successfully defending himself against an £80 million ($100m) lawsuit in New York – but the ink was barely dry by the time he was found not guilty. The 'Shape of You' singer was being sued due to alleged similarities between his 2014 song 'Thinking Out Loud' and that of Marvin Gaye's classic 'Let's Get it On.' Although he successfully defended himself, the star has also been hit by upsets in his personal life, so it's no wonder he sought out a lofty penthouse he could escape to. Let's take a look around...

Ed Sheeran celebrates court victory
The singer broke down in tears after winning the copyright infringement lawsuit, saying "I'm obviously very happy with the outcome of the case" but at the same time "unbelievably frustrated that baseless claims like this are allowed to go to court at all." He added: "It's devastating to be accused of stealing someone else's song when we put so much work into our livelihoods."

New album release
Hours after he addressed fans and media outside the court, Sheeran released his latest album, Subtract. Delving into depression, loss and hope, the album is already being hailed as "easily his best ever." Aside from the trial, the pop star has suffered a number of difficulties recently, including his wife Cherry's 2022 cancer diagnosis and the death of best friend Jamal Edwards. "I felt like I was drowning," he said in his recent Disney+ documentary The Sum of It All.
A calm space to escape legal woes
It's unclear whether Sheeran will keep the apartment on now that the trial has ended, but it's easy to see why he chose the £29,000 ($36k) a month four-bedroom apartment. It's spacious, airy and decorated in calming neutrals, making it the perfect place to wind down after a day in court. Taking up three storeys of a brand new 100-unit building in Brooklyn Heights, the penthouse was the most expensive lease available in the whole of Brooklyn when it was listed in January 2023.
Skyline views
It's no wonder the singer chose Brooklyn for his temporary home. It's far enough from Manhattan to escape the fray, but was close enough to commute in for the trial, which took place in Manhattan's Federal Court. It even has a large private roof terrace where Sheeran could relax without fear of intrusion.
Huge proportions
“I think it ticks a lot of boxes for what you want today in a New York penthouse triplex,” Sarah Williams, founder and CEO of SOCIETE Real Estate, told The New York Post. “Security. Space. Five-star amenities. Dramatic 16-foot ceilings and soaring Manhattan skyline views.” The building's "immense security measures" no doubt gave the superstar peace of mind as he sought refuge from his legal woes.
A temporary sanctuary?
Despite the beauty of the apartment, we can only assume he will now be keen to get back to his UK base. Sadly, the musician was forced to miss the funeral of his 98-year-old grandmother Nancy due to the trial and said afterwards that he "will never get that time back."
Luxury features
Sheeran had threatened to quit music altogether if he was found guilty of plagiarising the 1973 hit. Fans of the 'Perfect' singer will be relieved by the positive outcome. Hopefully he can now enjoy his peaceful new pad, which includes an enormous spa-like marble bathroom, where the star can wash away the stresses of the trail.

READ MORE: Take a tour of these awesome pop star homes
When they're not putting on incredible live shows or releasing chart-topping singles, these world-famous pop stars are relaxing in some truly incredible homes. From Justin Timberlake’s Hollywood Hills compound to P!nk's lavish Malibu beach house, Camila Cabello's romantic villa high above the Sunset Strip and Billie Eilish's sprawling equestrian ranch, let's take a tour of some of the most spectacular pop star residences in the world.
Camila Cabello's romantic villa, California, USA
Three years after snapping it up, Cuban-American pop star Camila Cabello parted ways with her romantic villa in Los Angeles, California in December 2021. It had been suggested that the 'Señorita' singer was house-hunting in Miami with her longtime boyfriend (and fellow musician), Shawn Mendes, but the couple have reportedly now broken up. While we wait for the dust to settle on that story, let's first step inside Cabello's current residence...
Camila Cabello's romantic villa, California, USA
Dating back to 1977, the elegant property was designed in Mediterranean Revival style and sits at the end of a private driveway, right above the Sunset Strip. Cabello bought the 3,570-square-foot house in April 2019, paying $3.4 million (£2.5m) for the privilege. Although she listed the villa with Compass for just over $3.9 million (£2.9m), it sold after just nine days for a whopping $4.3 million (£3.4m).

The house can be entered via a quaint private courtyard. Step through the front door and you’ll find yourself in a light-filled foyer that flows through to split-level, open-plan living rooms. From distressed hardwood flooring to retractable walls of glass, this home is a juxtaposition of old and new. There's a huge kitchen fit for a celebrity chef, numerous lounges for unwinding and entertaining, and a dining room that overlooks the garden. Cabello converted the home’s forth bedroom into a state-of-the-art recording studio. There’s also a professional vocal booth located inside the attached two-car garage.

Many of the living rooms on the ground floor flow out to the Zen-like courtyard garden, where a multi-level deck, saltwater swimming pool, alfresco dining zone, fire pit and outdoor kitchen can be found. Romantic and cosy, the beautiful backyard is decorated with fairy lights, grapevines and outdoor fireplaces, making it a magical and memorable spot to enjoy evening drinks. Watch this space to see what Camila Cabello buys next!
Billie Eilish
American singer-songwriter Billie Eilish rose to fame in 2019, with the release of her debut studio album, When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go? Despite only being on the music scene for a few years, the 'Bad Guy' singer is now thought to be worth a cool $53 million (£39.4m) as of 2022, and even made Forbes' 30 Under 30 list in 2019 – oh, and did we mention that she's only 21 years old? Of course, with such wealth comes great real estate opportunities, and Eilish certainly hasn't wasted any time.
Billie Eilish's equestrian estate, California, USA
In November 2019, when she was just 17 years old, Billie Eilish snapped up this sprawling equestrian estate in the city of Glendale, California, dropping $2.3 million (£1.7m). The singer bought the property from fellow musician, former British X-Factor winner, Leona Lewis. The 'Bleeding Love' singer paid $1.2 million (£893k) for the house in 2013, and first listed it in the middle of 2017 for $2.9 million (£2.2m), so Eilish seems to have bagged herself a bargain.

Not just any old house, the equestrian estate dates back to 1952 and was made for horse lover Eilish. The three-quarter-acre property comes equipped with four-stall stables, a tack room, a riding arena, a feed room and a fenced paddock. Inside, the 2,100-square-foot single-story ranch is light, bright and modern – making it perfect for one of the world's most iconic musicians.

The property features three bedrooms, three bathrooms, an open-plan living room with a hanging egg chair, a spacious kitchen and a dining zone. Chic throughout, the interior spaces boast hardwood floors, foldaway glass doors and elegant built-ins. Many of the rooms, including the master suite, spill out into the garden.

As well as ample equestrian facilities, the garden of the celebrity ranch also boasts plenty of places for unwinding. There's a swimming pool and spa area, a Balinese-style sunbathing bed, a guesthouse, a horse keeper’s apartment and a goat pen, in case Eilish fancies creating herself a petting zoo.

Britney Spears
As the undisputed Queen of Pop, Britney Spears has been in the limelight since 2000, when her debut single, 'Oops!... I Did It Again', landed in the charts. In and out of the news, thanks to the controversy surrounding her conservatorship battle, Britney is now a free woman – and newly engaged to her long-term partner, Sam Asghari. With a reported $70 million (£52m) now at her disposal, it's no wonder Britney has snapped up an array of stunning abodes...
Britney Spears' Italian-style villa, California, USA
Perhaps Britney's most impressive home is this one in the heart of Los Angeles. She bought the amazing estate in 2015 for $7.4 million (£5.5m) and it isn't difficult to understand why. Sprawling, secure and stylish, it was the perfect option for a pop mega-star. The palatial Italian-style villa is enclosed by 21 acres of land and benefits from views over the city's glistening skyline from almost every window.

Standing proud at 13,300 square feet, the grand property is as impressive inside as it is from the outside. The entrance offers an imposing welcome for any visitors and Britney fans will recognise it from the star's numerous social media videos. With its marbled floor, huge pillars and winding staircase, the foyer leads through to the main living room, which features a 35-foot high ceiling and unobstructed garden views.

As well as plenty of formal living spaces for unwinding, the home also offers a large country-style kitchen, five bedrooms, seven bathrooms, a wood-panelled office, a media room and a 3,500-bottle temperature-controlled wine cellar. Fitness fanatic Britney often shows off her gymnastic skills from her home gym, too, which is decked out with mirrored walls and state-of-the-art equipment. How's that for billionaire bling?

Of course, Britney Spears' garden isn't ordinary, either. The manicured grounds house a large pool, a sunbathing deck and a poolside pavilion with its own kitchen, bathroom and panoramic views over the mountains. Head further into the yard and you'll also find a lighted tennis court, an orchard and a three-green golf course. What more could a pop princess possibly need?

P!nk
Born Alecia Beth Moore, P!nk has become one of the world's most recognisable pop stars and has enjoyed a career that has spanned more than 20 years. Her first single, 'There You Go', was released in 2000 and the star hasn't looked back, accumulating a $200 million (£149m) fortune, thanks to her eight studio albums and 53 smash hit singles. Today, the star is a mother to two children, but she still finds time for sell-out tours and the odd property purchase...
P!nk's Malibu villa, California, USA
P!nk's latest real estate deal was this stunning villa in Malibu, California. The beachfront home was actually built in 1976, but thanks to a total renovation it's now a chic and sophisticated pad fit for a VIP. The 4,320-square-foot home offers five bedrooms, four bathrooms and a tranquil backyard that was designed for entertaining.

P!nk isn't the only celebrity to have owned the property, either. Barry Manilow is also said to have lived here before selling up in 2012. P!nk clearly fell head over heels for the pad, since she reportedly paid $200,000 (£149k) over the asking price for it, forking out a cool $13.7 million (£10.2m).

Yet she gained plenty of bang for her buck, since the lavish celebrity home comes complete with spacious living areas kitted out with floor-to-ceiling windows, as well as a guesthouse, a Jacuzzi, a formal dining room, a contemporary kitchen with bruised gold fixtures and a wraparound balcony with ocean views.

Every room also benefits from incredible panoramic views, including the master bathroom, which boasts a window-side tub. Could P!nk be the next celebrity property flipper? The star reportedly put the pad back on the market in October for $15 million (£11.2m), four months after she snapped it up for $13.7 million (£10.2m). The singer also owns a 200-acre ranch in the Santa Ynez Valley, for which she paid an estimated $13 million (£9.7m). Who knows what the 'Get The Party Started' singer will buy next...
