Martha Stewart's interiors are justifiably world-famous, and she's made it easy to get the look thanks to her signature decorating themes. Martha's first house in Connecticut was known as Turkey Hill. It had many of the distinctive farmhouse characteristics that we've come to know and love complete with all-season gardens and vegetable patches. "A farmhouse needs an appreciation of craftsmanship," explains Martha on Marthastewart.com. Martha is the queen of Christmas and knows how to be the most incredible hostess at the festive time of year. For a perfect Christmas, Martha recommends that you "assess your budget and occasion, include tried-and-true dishes and strategize your shopping". Also, concentrate on low effort, big impact details such as making and decorating cookies for place names. Lastly, it's no secret that Martha's favourite Christmas décor colour is gold. 

If you search for photos of Martha Stewart's kitchens, you'll see she's always had copper pots hanging from racks and stacked on open-shelving in her envy-inducing cook spaces. "Copper isn't just there for decoration, we definitely use it. But it's also important to look good, so every pot is polished before it's hung back up", Martha told Frederic magazine. 

One of Martha's favourite kitchen appliances is a professional cappuccino machine, which she also uses to create an instant breakfast favourite. "You put eggs in a cup or bowl with a tiny bit of butter and dash of salt and steam them with a milk steamer. In about 30 seconds you have beautiful eggs. I learned how to steam eggs like that from Buvette in West Village," Martha told Frederic magazine.

Open shelves and plenty of clean linens are staples in Martha Stewart's kitchens. She believes in decorating with what you use, so choose uplifting colours and prints to liven up the heart of the home. Use them to wash your hands and dishes then hang them up or drape them over your sink to provide instant colour.

Martha's first owned business was a catering company and she has always loved to entertain both indoors and out. To Martha, presentation is as important as the menu so always be ready for an open-air gathering or party. Martha, of course, owns an outdoor kitchen (probably at every estate) so why not install an outdoor alfresco cooking space of your own too?

Martha has a mecca of cleaning checklists that cover every possible housework conundrum you can imagine ranging from annual maintenance and cleaning jobs to guides on how to organise your refrigerator shelf by shelf. Don't be too disheartened if you can't keep up with the Stewart cleanliness standard though; she told Artful Living that she usually wakes up with the sunrise, around 5am every day, and enjoys staying busy.

She advises investing in a mattress protector, topper and the perfect pillow for how you sleep.
