While there are plenty of ultra-modern bathroom fixtures on the market, buyers have been leaning towards designs inspired by bygone eras. From Art Deco-style accents to Victorian-inspired sanitaryware, there are endless period design elements out there that can help you create a stylish yet timeless space.

Yet perhaps the best innovation is the smart shower. With controls that allow you to set the perfect temperature, pressure and jet stream, they provide the ultimate, tailored bathing experience. Some even come with remote controls, so you can start the water while you're still in bed.

There's nothing more annoying than a lack of storage. It can make our rooms dumping grounds for clutter and lead to uninviting and messy spaces.

So, in 2025, there's going to be a big emphasis on beautiful and practical storage solutions for the bathroom. If you're renovating, think about integrating storage into the room in the form of built-in shelves or recessed niches. Now this feels like luxury! A gorgeously rich, chocolatey colour scheme that just oozes grandeur. In 2024, we saw 1970s décor with its punchy, brown tones cropping up and the trend is showing no signs of abating.

But for bathrooms, it's going to be on a greater level and more about curating a cocooning, cosy space for bathing and unwinding. Just look at these gorgeous truffle-coloured tiles and paintwork – delish!

Sensory schemes and feeling 'at one' with the space you're in is key for 2025 – and enhancing that sensation of well-being and calm. Our lives are hectic, so this year it's about consciously slowing down and taking those precious moments to unwind.

Wabi-sabi – the Japanese aesthetic – is set to be prevalent in interiors this year. It's a muted luxe look that focuses on appreciating beauty that is 'imperfect, impermanent and incomplete' in nature. Think natural materials, tactile textures and organic shapes. Greenery and a view that will spark your imagination won't hurt, either.

Did marble ever go out of fashion? We don't think so! This stunning, high-end material embodies opulence and is both durable and timeless. That's why it’s found in some of the world’s most lavish hotels and homes. The perfect choice for a bathroom, marble can help you achieve a range of looks, from classical to extravagant. Plus, there’s a wide variety of options available to suit your style and budget.

In 2025, it's all about marble with colourful veining and statement stones, like granite and quartzite. From blues and oranges to plums and greens, there's a shade to meet all demands. Budget won't extend to the real thing? There are endless marble-effect tiles out there that will allow you to create the same luxe finish.

Every year, the paint experts at Pantone declare a Colour of the Year and for 2025 it's Mocha Mousse. This warming, brown hue is imbued with richness. "It nurtures us with its suggestion of the delectable qualities of chocolate and coffee, answering our desire for comfort," Pantone said of the shade.

Other keywords used to describe the hue include 'luxury', 'subtle elegance' and 'sensorial richness'. We can't help but agree! Whether you paint your walls with it, opt for mocha-inspired accessories or even go for a chocolate-coloured bath, you're sure to create a calming and balanced space.

With increasingly hectic lives and convenience a priority, we’re opting for showers over baths and are giving them the budget and consideration they deserve. Hence the rise of wet rooms and oversized walk-in showers, with smaller cubicles giving way to large, seamless enclosures with bold tiles or brassware.

This year, we'll see the trend for wet zoning flooding our socials – areas of the bathroom partitioned off as a dedicated shower space, creating a real statement piece that takes centre stage.

Beginning its story more than 500 years ago in Venice, terrazzo is still making waves in interior design, with its signature flecks affording a sense of retro style to contemporary bathrooms.

Terrazzo tiles can be used with spectacular effects to create a spa-like space and they look especially fabulous when paired with statement brushed brass fixtures and fittings. Last year, chunky terrazzo was in but in 2025, traditional terrazzo in warm tones will take centre stage.

#StyleItDark has been trending on social platforms for several years and while elsewhere in the home things are getting lighter and brighter, the bathroom is finally embracing the dark side. From deep blues to lush emeralds and bold blacks, we’re creating cocooning and comforting environments for relaxation, best offset against gleaming metallics and mood lighting.

The beauty of this trend is that sometimes it'll take no more than a couple of tins of paint to achieve the look. Tiles in dark hues, as well as deep wood panelling and furnishings, will also help you get the look. Plus, it works well with a simple white bathroom suite.

2025 will continue to see bathrooms where plants are plentiful, green is the go-to colour and natural materials are the thing. The emergence of biophilic design is extremely popular right now and is said to be fantastic for wellness.

Such schemes can help reduce anxiety and stress, provide us with a better connection to nature and generally create a calming atmosphere. In short, it’s all about bringing the outdoors in – rain showers, botanical prints, wooden elements, you name it!

Oversized tiles can make even the smallest of bathrooms seem bigger, so it’s hardly surprising that large-format is having a moment. Improvements in manufacturing and advancements in printing mean that concerns around breakages and quality of scaling-up are a thing of the past.

Oversized tiles create real impact and due to the fewer number of grout lines necessary for their installation, they create an air of space and a seamless aesthetic, too, especially when the same tiles are used on the walls and floor.

Talking of which, tile drenching is another big trend for 2025. An extension of the colour-drenching trend of last year, this style sees you using the same tiles on both the floor and walls of your bathroom, to create a striking space that feels very intentional and refined.

Using a high-gloss tile in a neutral shade will result in a light, luxurious and timeless finish while opting for a bold or rich hue will help you create an impactful space with bags of personality.

Sustainable bathrooms draw in elements of biophilic design, with earthy tones and nature-inspired touches, but take it one step further. Today, many eco-conscious designers also produce stylish and fashion-forward furniture, materials and sanitaryware, all with the planet in mind.

From water-recycling showers to tiles made from recycled materials, there's the chance to create a beautiful and sustainable space. Going green in the home has never been so appealing.

Reeded, ridged or fluted details are going to be a huge attention-to-detail trend in 2025. The contouring and texture of such finishes add interest and, when used boldly, can create a real centrepiece in the bathroom.

From glass shower screens to fluted vanity units and even textured bathtubs, there's a piece out there to help you achieve this elegant yet modern look.

Nature is a great soother in times of stress, which is why serene, soft hues will be big in 2025. There will be a shift away from the simple elegance of white towards earthy shades like sage, terracotta and warm beige.

The use of daring, unexpected colours has definitely been on the rise in recent years and in 2025, we’ll witness the resurgence of retro shades, in what is being called 'playful nostalgia'. Colourful bathroom suites returned to popularity in 2024, with homeowners opting for bathtubs and sinks finished in beautiful hues, for an added pop of colour. But this year, we’ll see the return of a bathroom shade we thought was firmly locked in the past.

That’s right, avocado is back! Forget matching bathroom suites in a sickly shade of avo – this year, it’s about subtle nods. Think finishing your tub in the colour, or tiling the walls for a gentle burst of green.

Texture can add real depth and warmth to a bathroom and while fluted finishes are set to be big this year, so too are textured tiles.

Tiles with a tactile finish, particularly those that mimic the natural look of stone or slate, are hugely popular right now, while tiles with 3D elements or indented patterns can help create a stylish yet understated look.

These days, our bathrooms don't have to feature one type of tile and a simple white suite. In fact, people are becoming increasingly more experimental with their design choices, which is why high-contrast finishes are becoming so popular.

Think shimmering gloss tiles paired with rustic wood and matt black brassware. In this scheme, timber panelling is used to great effect alongside terrazzo, a blue matt vanity unit and lustrous metro tiles in the shower.

In 2023, The Little Mermaid hit movie screens and caused a new fashion and beauty trend – mermaidcore! Slowly, the trend has morphed and, according to Pinterest, this year will be the year of the sea witch. While this trend is more about makeup, hair and accessories, it has also crept into our interiors.

The modern coastal look is defined by marine-inspired hues, pearl finishes, seashells and nautical styles that reference the ‘fisherman aesthetic’, which is set to be big in fashion in 2025.

Enjoy five-star amenities from the comfort of your home, with everything from whirlpool baths, saunas and power showers providing all the facilities of a spa in your own space. Over the last few years, we've all discovered the benefits of rest and self-care, so it isn't surprising that we're looking for ways to make our bathrooms more aligned with this.
