The Great British Bake Off stars and their beautiful kitchens

Where Bake Off stars get their bake on
The Great British Bake Off first hit our screens in 2010 and since then, it has become one of the most popular shows on TV. This is probably thanks to its iconic judges and relatable contestants, many of whom have gone on to write recipe books and even star in their own baking shows. As series 14 kicks off – with a brand-new presenter in tow – and we prepare ourselves for more sensational show-stoppers, soggy bottoms and Hollywood handshakes, we’ve decided to step behind the gingham alter. From Prue and Paul to Nadiya and Sandro, let’s explore the real kitchens of the show's biggest stars...

Paul Hollywood
An 'OG' Bake Off judge, Paul Hollywood has been with us from the very beginning of the show and has always been a tough critic. Judging with a keen eye and offering the occasional, rather reluctant handshake, Paul has high standards – especially when it comes to bread. So, where does the star prove his dough and tend to his sourdough starter? Paul once lived in Canterbury, Kent, in a Grade II-listed, 13th-century home that he sold in 2016. After that, he moved into a reported £800,000 ($970k) Grade-II listed farmhouse near Ashford, Kent.
Paul Hollywood
Though the star is very private about where he lives, luckily for us he took part in an At Home with Paul Hollywood series with AGA, giving us the chance to step inside his fresh, modern kitchen. With its dove grey units, wood worktops and high-end appliances, it's the perfect spot for getting your bake on. Of course, Paul also has an amazing Gozney outdoor pizza oven, where he frequently whips up fresh margheritas for himself and his new wife, Melissa Spalding.
Prue Leith
Dame Prue Leith replaced Mary Berry as a Bake Off judge in 2017 and since then, she’s become a staple part of the show. Bringing a wealth of knowledge to the tent, as a restaurateur and cookery writer, Prue is also loved for her statement specs, colourful accessories and her love of a tipple – or two! So, where does the Leiths School of Food and Wine founder live and cook when she's not at work?
Prue Leith
Prue lived in the same Gloucestershire house for over four decades but in December 2020, she decided to move. She purchased a lovely Cotswold house and of course, the kitchen is the heart of the home. Prue teamed up with Omega to create the perfect at-home cooking space. Much like the star herself, the colourful kitchen is bright and bursting with personality – think canary yellow cabinetry, back-lit open storage, a large prep island, floral roller blinds and multi-coloured dining chairs. Of course, the kitchen is also equipped with high-end appliances and plenty of storage.
Mary Berry
Alongside Paul Hollywood, Mary Berry was one of the original judges of GBBO, starring in the show for seven series until it moved to a new channel in 2017. However, even before rising to new levels of fame on the show, Mary was a highly successful food journalist, with countless cookery books and TV shows under her belt. Let's take a look at where the veteran celebrity chef lives and prepares family meals.
Mary Berry
Savvy fans might recognise the cook's kitchen from some of her most popular cooking shows, since much of her early TV work was filmed in this very room. She bought the home in 1988 and stayed there until 2017, 'downsizing' to a £2.6 million ($3.2m) property in Henley-on-Thames. Mary's former country kitchen is traditional and cosy yet offers plenty of space for prepping and dining. It boasts everything a keen foodie could need, including a four-oven AGA and a walk-in fridge. There's also a wine cellar and a secondary preparation kitchen, which Mary no doubt used when hosting soireés.

Edd Kimber
Long-time fans of Bake Off will remember Edd Kimber, who won the first ever series back in 2010, thanks to his fantastic technical skills. Since being named the UK's best amateur baker, Edd has gone on to forge a culinary career, writing three baking books, including the multi-award-winning One Tin Bakes. He regularly contributes recipes to a number of magazines and newspapers, too, including Delicious and The Telegraph. So, where does the star live and cook?
@theboywhobakes / Instagram
Edd Kimber
Originally from Bradford, Edd resides in London with his boyfriend and their dog, Wesley. In May 2023, Olive Magazine interviewed Edd about his inspiring kitchen makeover. “We hated the bland kitchen that we inherited but, as it was relatively new and in good condition, it felt a waste to rip it out,” Edd told his Instagram followers. Since it had a good quality Howdens shell, Edd instead decided to upcycle the units using Rust-Oleum kitchen cabinet paint in two shades, Featherstone and Fire Brick. With classic white metro tiles, simple white countertops and herringbone timber floors, the space is modern, fresh and stylish – and was achieved on a shoestring budget.
Kim-Joy Hewlett
Kim-Joy made it all the way to the final of The Great British Bake Off in 2018, thanks to her incredible Kawaī bakes – think monster-shaped meringues and madeleines decorated to look like napping cats. Paul and Prue loved Kim-Joy's whimsical baking style, which all had flavour to match, and so did fans. Since her time on the show, she's released three cookbooks and continues to share her creative confections with her 400,000-plus Instagram followers.
Kim-Joy Hewlett
It isn't just a new cookbook that Kim-Joy has been working on. She took to social media in May 2022 to share the news that she was undertaking a kitchen renovation. In November, she was ready to give her fans the grand tour of the completed space – and it's every bit as cool and unique as Kim-Joy herself! With a bold tiled floor, dine-at island, sage green cabinets, timber accents and plenty of task lighting, it's the ultimate kitchen for whipping up ultra-cute cakes, bakes and cookies. We love the neon Beat the Clock sign – a nod to Kim-Joy's time on Bake Off.

Nadiya Hussain
Nadiya Hussain was crowned the winner of series six of GBBO in 2015 and despite plenty of time passing, she remains one of the show's most loved and successful bakers. Since winning, Nadiya has released countless cookbooks and has starred in several of her own cookery shows, inspiring a whole new generation of cooks and bakers. She also has a collection of kitchen accessories and hand-decorated tableware. Let's take a look at where the star prepares her family meals...
@nadiyajhussain / Instagram
Nadiya Hussain
Nadiya lives in Milton Keynes with her husband, daughter and two sons, regularly taking to her Instagram page to share recipes and glimpses of her home life. This has allowed us to see small parts of her modern kitchen. With white, handleless gloss units, a sleek induction hob and dual ovens, the kitchen is certainly the heart of Nadiya’s home. There's also a central, eat-in island where she can cook while her kids do their homework – the perfect family space.

David Atherton
A lover of bread, David was crowned the winner of series 10 of GBBO, which aired in 2019. As a self-declared underdog, David was apparently the bookies' least favourite to win, but thanks to a near-flawless performance in all three challenges, he took the trophy. Since then, David has released seven cookbooks and has another on the way. He's also the co-host of the 'Sticky Bun Boys' podcast, in which he talks about his favourite TV shows with friend Michael Chakraverty.

David Atherton
Born in Whitby, North Yorkshire, David now lives in south London with his husband Nik and their cute kitty, Rey and dog, Kai. A regular on social media, David often shares recipes and cooking videos, filmed in his cool and contemporary kitchen. The space benefits from a statement brick fireplace, where his enviable stove sits. The kitchen also has bold blue units, wooden workshops, a prep island, a dining table and, of course, plenty of storage space for all of David's baking essentials.

Laura Adlington
A firm favourite from series 11 of GBBO, Laura Adlington was loved for her positive attitude, sense of humour and delicious – but hilariously messy bakes! Laura made it all the way to the final but lost out to Peter Sawkins. Since starring on Bake Off, Laura quit her job and is now a highly successful influencer, focusing on plus size fashion, body confidence and, of course, baking. She even has an award-winning podcast, Go Love Yourself.

As a full-time podcaster and social media star, Laura is regularly sharing images of her Essex home, including her bright and modern kitchen. The space is clean, fresh and well-equipped, with white shaker cabinets, slimline white countertops, a sleek induction hob and a classic Belfast sink. Under-unit lighting and three pendants illuminate Laura's worktops – perfect for when she's whipping up a birthday cake.

Sandro Farmhouse
Sandro Farmhouse quickly became a culinary pin-up when he starred on series 13 of Bake Off, which aired in 2022. Fans loved his visually impressive bakes, which were often infused with flavours from his Angolan heritage. A finalist, Sandro lost the crown to Syabira Yusoff, but that didn't stop him. Now a popular Instagram content creator, Sandro also has a recipe book, Good Vibes Baking, and regularly posts videos of his amazing bakes on social media.

Sandro Farmhouse
Sandro lives in London, in a bright and modern flat. Of course, the kitchen is the heart of his home – and the place where he spends most of his time. Thanks to his many Instagram videos and pics, we've all had the chance to snoop around the all-white space, which boasts simple units with glass fronts, open shelving, sleek worktops and stainless steel appliances. There's the odd pop of colour from house plants, while a strip light allows Sandro to illuminate specific spots in the rooms.

Nancy Birtwhistle
With a wealth of knowledge and a collection of DIY baking tools, lovingly crafted by her husband, Nancy Birtwhistle was crowned the winner of series five of The Great British Bake Off in 2014. Since the show, Nancy has become a Sunday Times bestselling author, thanks to her second book, Green Living Made Easy: 101 Eco Tips, Hacks and Recipes to Save Time and Money. She shares handy kitchen and home tips on Instagram and also hosts baking workshops at food shows across the country.

Nancy Birtwhistle
Nancy lives in Kingston upon Hull, a port city in East Yorkshire, where she films her household tip videos for social media. Nancy often shares photos and videos of her kitchen, too, where she regularly whips up classics like scones, blackberry pie and banana bread, providing her followers with her much-wanted recipes. A traditional farmhouse kitchen, Nancy's cooking space features a large wooden table at its centre, with cream cabinets, timber worktops and plenty of open shelving where all of her recipe books are displayed.
Chetna Makan
Chetna Makan was part of series five of Bake Off in 2014. The judges loved her bold, Indian-inspired flavours, which are infused into all of her bakes, and she made it all the way to the semi-final. Chetna is now an award-winning food writer, with not one but seven cookbooks under her belt – and her very own YouTube cookery channel, Food with Chetna. In 2018, she also ran the London Marathon with 12 other former Bake Off contestants in aid of Great Ormond Street Hospital. The team called themselves the Baker's Dozen!
Chetna Makan
Fans of Chetna will no doubt already know that she often shares behind-the-scenes glimpses of where she cooks. In fact, most of her YouTube videos are filmed in her home kitchen. Chetna took to Instagram in early September 2023, to share this pic after a long day of cooking. Her spacious kitchen boasts handleless units in a deep blue shade, marble-effect worktops and tiles, sleek stainless steel appliances and natural wood accents. Chetna's open shelves are filled with house plants, quirky homewares and colourful cookbooks.
Liam Charles
Liam Charles was extremely popular with fans during the eighth series of Bake Off in 2017, thanks to his brilliant sense of humour and his amazing bakes – which incorporated his passion for art and design. Liam was the series’ youngest contestant and came fifth, joking that he was “coming for Paul Hollywood’s job in a couple of years”. Little did Liam know that just one year on he would be hosting Bake Off: The Professionals and became a judge for Junior Bake Off in 2019. He has also starred in his own cooking show, Liam Bakes, has released two cookbooks and writes a regular baking column for The Guardian.
Liam Charles
Born and raised in Hackney, London, Liam lives at home with his family, often taking to his Instagram to share videos and images from inside his kitchen. The space is decked out with colourful, leaf print wallpaper, silvery grey units, a white dining table and an open metal shelving unit where Liam can store all of his essential baking tools and equipment, including countless cake tins.

Manon Lagrève
Born and raised in France, Manon Lagrève learned to bake with her mother and grandmother, but it was only when she moved to London that she found her passion for baking. She appeared on series nine of Bake Off, alongside Kim-Joy, and was celebrated for her classic creations that all had a modern, French twist. Manon made it to the quarter finals and since then has released a cookbook, 'Et Voilà'. She's also big on TikTok, with more than 350,000 followers.

Manon Lagrève
Manon regularly takes to social media to share pics of her home life with her fans, including adorable "realistic baking sessions" with her two-year-old daughter. Like Manon herself, her kitchen is fun and stylish. It has simple units, brass hardware, a Belfast sink and plenty of open shelving, where pastel-hued kitchenware is proudly displayed. A compact room, it has a large skylight and plenty of recessed spotlights to illuminate every inch.
Sophie Faldo
Before she starred on series eight of The Great British Bake Off, Sophie Faldo was a British Army Officer. It was perhaps her military precision that led her to be crowned the winner of the series, beating Kate Lyon and Steven Carter-Bailey to the title. Since taking home the crown, Sophie set up her own baking business, Sophie Faldo Couture Cakes, and specialises in beautiful, bespoke wedding cakes. She's also an Instagram regular – as is her cat, Odin – where she shares recipes and insight into her daily life.
Sophie Faldo
Sophie lives in Wiltshire and her kitchen is the ultimate space for cooking up a storm. With its metallic grey cabinets, wood worktops and spacious island, Sophie has plenty of room for preparing elaborate sweet treats. The kitchen also benefits from brick-inspired tiles, for an industrial edge.
Peter Sawkins
Peter Sawkins became the youngest ever winner of The Great British Bake Off, when he beat Laura Adlington and Dave Friday in the series 11 final in 2020. He was just 20 years old at the time, but wowed the judges with his Scottish-inspired treats – the fact he often added whiskey to his bakes might also have helped sway them! Since winning, Peter has written two cookbooks and is big on Instagram, replicating iconic bakes from the show, as they happen.
Peter Sawkins
In May 2023, Peter took to social media to share the exciting news that he had just bought his first home in Edinburgh, Scotland. Since then, Peter has posted several videos from his new kitchen, which comes complete with pale cabinetry, wood counters, white metro tiles, a butler sink and open shelving. It also boasts a cool statement ceiling, in deep forest green.

Candice Brown
After winning series seven of Bake Off in 2016, Candice Brown released her very own cookbook, entitled Comfort: Delicious Bakes & Family Treats. Since then, she's written a second recipe book and regularly cooks live on Channel 4's Steph's Packed Lunch. Amazingly, Candice recently bought a gastropub in Eversholt, Bedfordshire, with her brother. The Greenman is the best place to go to sample some fantastic food and, of course, an indulgent dessert or two!
