Due to be completed this year, these spectacular skyscrapers from around the world are in a class of their own. From designer homes on high to offices with wow-factor views, elevated infinity pools and even skyports for flying cars, these futuristic high-rises have some pretty lofty ambitions. NEMA, Chicago, USA
This spectacular 76-storey skyscraper is located in Chicago’s Grant Park and was designed by Rafael Viñoly. Measuring 1,321,415 square foot, NEMA will be the city’s tallest residential building, offering unparalleled views of its famous skyline and Lake Michigan.

The building will have a wealth of technology built into it, with smart elevators that group riders according to their destination, a Bluetooth security system, and wifi-everywhere for both residents and guests. For those who choose to call the tower home, a handy mobile app will control everything from rent payments to maintenance requests.

NEMA, Chicago, USA
Residents will have use of the fabulous 10,000-square-foot outdoor deck with a swimming pool and barbeque areas. There's also a spectacular indoor lap pool with views of the city, plus saunas, steam rooms, a boxing ring, basketball court, games arcade, and golf simulator.

This new 62-storey skyscraper in the City of London will house more than 100 companies when completed. It aims to maximise the health and wellbeing of its occupants and create a thriving business community by devoting over 10% of its internal space to a range of amenities.

There will be a restaurant, gym and free public viewing gallery at the top of the building – the highest of its kind in Europe. On the 41st floor, you'll find The Retreat, where you can clear your mind with a spot of yoga, some quiet time in the sauna or a treatment at the in-house spa. Level two will host a street food market with an outdoor terrace and bar, while outside there'll be a curated artwork trail to get those creative juices flowing.

Designed by PLP Architecture, smart technology features throughout this 913-foot tower. Access will be by face recognition and occupants can use an app to control their working environment, book services and connect socially with other workers. Offices are now being leased by JLL.

When finished, this striking tower is expected to be the third tallest building in China and the fourth tallest in the world. Standing 2,087 feet tall with 119 levels, the structure will include offices, luxury apartments, a five-star hotel and a private penthouse club.

Adrian Smith + Gordon Gill Architecture
Wuhan Greenland Center, Wuhan, China
Its tapered shape, rounded corners, and domed top, designed by architects Adrian Smith and Gordon Gill, will reduce the wind resistance that typically builds up around other supertall buildings. This means that its structure can be built using fewer materials, creating a smaller carbon footprint than similar projects.

The skyscraper's three corners rise up to form an arched glass dome that allows light to flood down into the tower. Adrian Smith + Gordon Gill's interiors studio is designing the building’s public spaces inside to reflect the building’s conical shape and sweeping lines.
Torres Obispado (T.OP), Monterrey, Mexico
The Torres Obispado, meaning Bishop’s Towers, are two incredible skyscrapers in Monterrey, Mexico. Tower one, measuring 1,000 feet, will be the tallest building in all of Latin America, overtaking the Gran Torre Santiago tower in Chile.

Originally, the main tower was only intended to reach a height of 876 feet, but it’s said that the architect in charge at Pozas Arquitectos wanted it to be the tallest structure of its kind in Latin America, not just Mexico.

The 1,312-foot China Resources Headquarters tower, designed by architects KPF, was completed in January 2019. Its tapered shape was inspired by a bamboo shoot, while its clever pre-fabricated steel structure means that the interior is column-free.

Located at the peak of the tower, the 224-foot-high sky hall is described by the architects as a cathedral-like space, offering spectacular views of the spire and its kaleidoscope top, which is similar to that of the Gherkin in London. Somewhat of a novelty, it's rare for people to be able to access the highest point of a high-rise building.

The towering headquarters of the state-owned China Resources group, the complex offers an impressive array of shops, plus an auditorium, performance hall, and museum. It’s now one of the most recognisable landmarks on Shenzhen’s skyline.

Perched on London's South Bank, One Blackfriars was completed earlier this year and at 558 feet, it's one of the tallest residential buildings in Europe. Residents of its 274 apartments will enjoy uninterrupted views of London, as well as expansive floor-to-ceiling windows.

Designed by SimpsonHaugh, the building has a distinctive dual façade – the smooth outer skin is made up of 5,476 glass panels, while the inner façade consists of coloured panels. In between the two are enclosed balconies that give residents valuable extra living space.

The development has three buildings in total surrounding a public plaza. As well as the residential tower, a further high-rise contains shops, restaurants and leisure facilities for residents, including a luxurious spa, gym and cinema. The third structure is a plush 161-bedroom hotel.

The four skyscrapers in this development on the edge of Manchester's city centre will all be residential. The South Tower will be the tallest at 659 feet and is set to be completed this year along with the West Tower. The North and East Towers will be ready in 2021.

Once complete, the South Tower will be the tallest building in Manchester, overtaking Beetham Tower, and the second tallest residential tower in the UK. There will be a spa, swimming pool, sports hall, gym and rooftop garden for Deansgate Square residents to enjoy.

The complex was designed by architects SimpsonHaugh and will contain an impressive 1,508 homes. Deansgate Square will also house a spectacular riverside plaza and a public square for markets and events, plus a cinema and gym, along with plenty of restaurants and shops.

Leeza Soho, designed by Zaha Hadid Architects, is in Beijing’s Lize Financial Business District and stands at 656 feet tall. Due to be completed this year, this incredible 50-floor architectural feat will house a mixture of offices and retail units.

Built over the intersection of two subway lines, the tower is split in half and connected by sky bridges. The opposing sides of the building curve around each other, encased within a glass cylinder that creates a dramatic yin and yang effect.

The central atrium that connects the two twisting towers of the building soars to 623 feet and is the tallest in the world. The structure's 45-degree twist allows natural light to flood into all levels, framing panoramic views of the city at the centre of each floor.

The Paramount Miami Worldcenter skyscraper is part of the Miami Worldcenter complex – the biggest urban development in the United States. It rises 700 feet above downtown Miami, with 60 floors and 513 luxury condos which offer private elevator access and foyers.

Brisbane Skytower is a 90-storey 887-foot skyscraper in the city’s stylish business district. Housing 1,138 luxury apartments, it will be Brisbane’s tallest building when it's completed later this year.

Stantec Tower, Edmonton, Canada
Canadian engineering firm Stantec designed this skyscraper as its new headquarters in downtown Edmonton’s bustling business district. The company moved into its 29 floors of offices in 2018, while the tower's 483 stylish condos will be completed later this year.

The building has a total of 69 storeys and measures 816 feet, making it one of Canada's tallest buildings. The office space is designed to be inclusive, with a multi-faith prayer room, breastfeeding room and gender-neutral washrooms.

This imposing glass office building in Dubai International Finance Centre was designed by Foster + Partners and measures a lofty 925 feet tall. Thanks to its futuristic prism structure, the building's shape appears to shift and change throughout the day, according to the position of the sun.

Boasting 54 storeys of office space, the tower also has seven basement levels with parking for 2,700 vehicles. A second five-storey building containing a vast shopping complex is connected to the office tower by pedestrian walkways. Not too shabby for a day at the office!

‘Big four’ accounting firm Ernst & Young recently announced that it would be occupying four floors of the tower. The super sleek development is a joint venture between the Investment Corporation of Dubai (ICD) and Brookfield Properties.

Construction of the Lakhta Center tower was completed in 2018 and at 1,516 feet it’s now the tallest building in Europe. Boasting a whopping 40 elevators, the interior of the building is still under construction and will be ready to open later this year.

This stunning 87-storey skyscraper will be the headquarters of the Russian gas company Gazprom. It will offer an array of public spaces including the highest panoramic restaurant in Europe, a planetarium, sports facilities and a concert hall.

British architect Tony Kettle, who designed the tower, took inspiration from the architecture of Saint Petersburg's iconic Peter and Paul Cathedral. This influence is clear, with the skyscraper's dramatic glass facade twisting an incredible 90 degrees from its foundations to the top, reflecting the tapered spires of the cathedral. That's one way to stand out in a skyline!
111 West 57th Street, New York City, USA
Nestled on the edge of Central Park, this New York development has an enviable position. The original Steinway Hall building dating back to 1925, this historic structure is being converted into residences and extended with the addition of a brand new tower designed by SHoP Architects. Both structures will be home to lavish apartments featuring interiors designed by Studio Sofield.

The transformation of Steinway Hall will be completed in 2019. The building was once the home of piano makers Steinway & Sons and included showrooms and performance spaces which hosted some of the world’s most renowned pianists.
