Originally known as Stamp House, the 11,398-square-foot (1,059sqm) residence was built for stamp dealer Rob Perry. A playful nod to his profession is seen through the punctured indents that adorn the home's concrete façade.
The residence's futuristic form is nothing short of showstopping. Private wings housing the property's six bedrooms cantilever off from the communal living spaces, hovering effortlessly over the water.
This seemingly gravity-defying design was inspired by more than just aesthetics. Some 50 years after it was first created, artist Craig Barnes discovered the derelict structure in South Africa in 2013, where it had been sitting unloved since 1972. Barnes couldn’t resist purchasing it...
Barnes carefully deconstructed the futuristic unit before transporting it back to the UK. He then spent a year researching, planning and executing its initial restoration.
The refurbished Futuro house was first exhibited at Matt’s Gallery in Mile End, London, before being moved to Central St Martins in King’s Cross and then Le Havre in France.
In 2021, the property was relocated again to Marston Park in Somerset, UK, and is currently used as a unique holiday home.
Inside, the restored Futuro house is every bit the sci-fi spacecraft, with futuristic yellow reclining chairs lining the circular interior. White orb pendant lights complete the UFO design – we imagine any passing aliens would feel pretty at home here.
