Spanning over 300 acres, Jackie bought up the land in 1970s, constructing a secluded Cape Cod-style home where she could reconnect with nature and escape the limelight.

Named Red Gate Farm, there are four large bedrooms in the 6,456-square-foot main house and a further four bedrooms found in the guesthouse in the grounds. Sensitively renovated following the First Lady's death in 1994, the interior is soft and romantic, with crisp white walls, pastel furnishings and tall sash windows.

With the plot having sold for $1 million in the 1960s, the property is set to be the most expensive sale of a single-family estate in Martha's Vineyard if it goes for the asking price of $65 million (£53.2m).

Star of cult TV hits including The West Wing and Parks and Recreation, Golden Globe nominee Rob Lowe is waving goodbye to his breathtaking Colonial-style estate in Montecito, California. Named Oakview, the 10,000-square-foot property has six bedrooms, eleven bathrooms and a long list of luxurious amenities.
