These eerie houses might be abandoned and run-down, but they're by no means empty. Treasure troves of times gone by, they're packed to the rafters with boxes of personal belongings and antiques, offering a window into the lives of their past owners. Who knows, there may even be some hidden gems beneath the mounds of clutter...

Located in Brisbane, Australia, this derelict timber house has suffered the test of time both inside and out. Long abandoned, the exterior is falling apart with shattered windows, faded wood and graffiti scrawled across the brickwork. However, inside a captivating story awaits...

According to local legend, a reclusive old lady and her son lived in the home for many years, accumulating piles of belongings and only leaving the home before sunrise. They are both said to have passed away around the same time and the house was subsequently abandoned. This bedroom has an eerie feel about it, with a towel still hanging on the door and the bed piled high with personal effects.

It's almost impossible to traverse the kitchen, with debris taking up every available space in the room. Plastic bottles are still stacked high in the sink, while the table is covered with many years' worth of newspapers that have yellowed over time.

In this deserted bedroom, what looks like a suit jacket and shirt hang in the window as though waiting for their owner to return. The wardrobe doors are flung open, suggesting someone left in a hurry, while the bed is littered with countless possessions.

After the passing of both owners, this house was left untouched and slowly began to fall into disrepair. Packed full of old antiques, instruments and more, it's a treasure trove of yesteryear. The pink retro kitchen has seen better days, with cupboards full to the brim with crockery and a sink overflowing with rubbish.

No doubt once the sanctuary of a teenager, this bedroom has borne the brunt of the property's neglect. The walls are plastered with dog-eared posters that have seen better days, while the bed is piled high with rubbish that's coated in dust from the caved-in ceiling.

In the living room, it looks as if someone has started to tidy up. However, with stacks upon stacks of old magazines and videos, there's an awful lot to make your way through. Hidden underneath the piles of rubbish, urban explorer Dave from Freaktography stumbled across mementos of the family's history, including birth certificates and wedding photos. 

Even the piano can't escape the years of accumulated belongings, including an array of faded vinyl records. Perhaps once the family's pride and joy, small figurines sit atop the piano, while underneath the instrument, more magazines sit stacked in neat piles.

Located in Louisville, Georgia, this house has long been vacated by its former owners. Fallen into a state of disrepair, mementos of the past still linger in its halls. With 15-foot ceilings, floor-to-ceiling windows and pine floors, the villa would have been one of the area's grandest homes at the time, but stepping inside, it's clear that much has changed since its heyday.

Captured by abandoned photographer Leland Kent, the last owner of the property is thought to have been Ms Eve Griffin, a regular fixture on the lounge music circuit in the 60s and 70s. Eve purchased the property in 1987 for the sum of £23,000 ($30k). Items such as the black and white Elvis poster in this old room highlight her love of music and her successful singing career.

Purportedly nicknamed the ‘Hoarder House’ by local residents, the property is packed with old toys, clothes and pieces of furniture. The once-grand living room with its draped pelmets and green brocade sofa is a shadow of its former self, while the floor is littered with fallen plaster. A collection of stuffed animals and dolls are now the sole inhabitants of this former family home.

The front downstairs bedroom is piled high with clothing, blankets and bric-a-brac, leaving the floor almost invisible beneath the clutter. What valuable ornaments or remnants from yesteryear might be hiding under the mountains of debris?

Urbex photographer Freaktography captured this eerie, abandoned house in Southern Canada. Once belonging to a couple with a penchant for dolls, trinkets and books, their home became a homage to their avid collecting. 

While the property is abandoned, the living room is overrun with shelf upon shelf of dolls and miniatures. This unit was packed so tightly with items that the couple was forced to line figurines along the top, next to faded family photographs.

In the bedroom, another of the couple's collections has taken over. Brimming with piles of books squeezed into every nook and cranny, the well-thumbed volumes must have taken years to collect.

Now frozen in time, the house would have once been a bright and airy space, especially the living room which features a huge picture window. With the pane now smashed, this room has been left open to the elements. The future doesn't look good for their prized collections...

Located at the end of a winding driveway and hidden behind trees sits this abandoned mansion. With stunning arched windows and red brickwork, the exterior almost looks as grand as it would have in its heyday, but inside it's a very different story.

What would once have been a grand hallway, complete with a spiral staircase, is now a dilapidated space that's packed to the rafters with discarded items. Every room is overrun with personal effects, toys, jewellery and clothes. It appears that whoever lived here found it difficult to part with their belongings.

Just off from the hallway sits this living room with a regal wood-panelled ceiling and an original brick fireplace. However, it's hard to make out these architectural gems for all the stacks of boxes, which include tins of food, clothes and family photo albums. In happier times, the flickering hearth would have been an idyllic spot for the family to gather around on wintery nights.

As well as cluttered bedrooms like this one, the home also purportedly has a secret attic room in the rafters, packed with a treasure trove of old items that were collected over the years. From an expensive antique typewriter to valuable games and old photos, the array of discarded gems could be worth a pretty penny now.

Said to have last been lived in by the son of the original owners, this run-down cabin in Southern Ontario is packed with decades-old items. Thanks to the hole in the ceiling, the woodland cabin and its huge collection of personal items are slowly descending into ruin.

The open-plan living space has turned into something resembling a junkyard. The sofas are dirty and littered with family photos and clothes, while the tiny coffee table is piled high with bills. It appears nothing was taken by the previous owner when he left.

Delving further inside the property, this gilded chandelier is now covered in dust and cobwebs. Treasured possessions litter the floor, discarded and left to weather the sands of time. Curiously, hidden towards the back of the room there's even an ornate birdcage, though its occupant has long since departed.

Formally a generous living space with a cosy fireplace, this area is now riddled with dust and dirt. A collection of competition rosettes adorns the fireplace alongside family photos, while the floor features stacks of magazines and even some discarded artwork.
