Founded by five brothers in 1958, the firm has provided around 85,000 timber-framed homes since it started out. Designed in collaboration with two sailors, Honka’s Saari collection combines the ecological benefits of wooden houses with the style and rigour of contemporary architecture.

All of Honka’s log houses are made from PEFC-certified Finnish pine, with a new tree planted for each one felled. Structures start at around €1,500 per square metre, or $1,825 (£1.3k), and their cabin kits can be shipped anywhere in the world in a matter of weeks.
