Villa de La Mina, a former mining village located in the Terlingua region of West Texas, has fallen a long way since its heyday back in the early 1900s. The discovery of cinnabar, a lucrative form of mercury, turned Villa de La Mina briefly into a boomtown, which included homes, a fortress, and of course, an on-site mine.
