Pelé—football’s ‘greatest’ as labelled by FIFA—sadly passed away on December 29th 2022, leaving behind an incredible legacy of football achievements. The former Brazilian forward had been isolating in his beachfront mansion in São Paulo, Rio before losing his battle with metastatic cancer. The East Hampton summer home was snapped up by Pelé in 1979 for $156,000 (£130k), according to Dirt. Stretching across 3,400 square foot and totalling six bedrooms and seven and a half bathrooms, the three-time World Cup champion would have plenty of space to relax and unwind. We’re sure he enjoyed holidaying so close to his two New York City-dwelling daughters as well.

Inside you’ll find an impressive double-height living room, with stretches of fresh white walls bathing in sunlight via multiple floor to ceiling windows. According to a previous listing, the recently renovated chef’s kitchen boasts sliders that open out onto the deck beyond for sun, sea, plus turf ’n’ surf.

Unsurprisingly, she has also invested wisely in the property game.

Stephen Curry snapped up this brand new home in the wealthiest zip code in America back in 2019. Sold to the sports star for $31 million (£25.8m), the home sits in the super-exclusive Bay Area of Atherton in California. Also home to the likes of WhatsApp founder Jan Koum and ex-Facebook Vice President Mike Murphy, Curry will have some extremely wealthy neighbours. 

Having never been on the open market, images of the property are scarce, apart from some renderings from Studio Green that show the house design. Reportedly located at the end of a quiet cul-de-sac, the home sits on just over one acre of land and is hidden behind gates, making it barely visible from the street.

American football quarterback Tom Brady has led his teams to a record seven Super Bowl victories. Having spent his first 20 seasons with the New England Patriots, in March 2020 he left and signed a two-year, $50 million (£41.6m) contract with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers before making a sensational return two years later in March 2022 for his 23rd season in Tampa. He married supermodel Gisele Bündchen in 2009 after they met on a blind date. The power couple had an estimated joint net worth of $650 million (£541m) and invested in some serious property before their eventual divorce, which was finalised in October 2022. 

In December 2020, NFL star Tom Brady splashed out $17 million (£14.1m) on a mansion on the famed Indian Creek Island in Miami. Known as 'Billionaire Bunker' the high profile island is also home to Ivanka Trump, who purchased her home in the same week as Tom and Gisele. Brady has been linked to Ivanka's father, Donald Trump since 2002, when the former president asked him to judge the Miss USA pageant.

Tom and Gisele moved their family to Florida when Brady was signed to play for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2020. While the location could not be more exclusive, the red-roofed house that currently sits on the plot is far from luxurious. The Brookline house is a 5-bedroom custom-built mansion designed by legendary architect Richard Landry that the Brady/Bündchens created in an exclusive part of Massachusetts. The house is nearly 10,000 square feet and built to the highest spec with a gym, spa, pool and a huge guest house complete with a yoga studio. It's surrounded by a five-acre plot of land. They sold it for $33 million (£27.5m) when they moved to Florida. With green building practices at the top of Gisele's priority list and their combined passion for design, we're sure that whatever the former duo build on this hugely expensive plot of land will be a lucrative investment! 

Since beginning his basketball career in 1984 for the Chicago Bulls, legendary sportsman Michael Jordan has redefined what it means to be an NBA superstar. When he finally quit the game for good in 2003, he left with the NBA’s highest-scoring average of 30 points per game and was made a Hall of Fame inductee. Beyond his record-beating time as a player, Jordan has also spent a huge part of his career investing in the sport and in 2010 he became the majority owner of the Charlotte Bobcats. Off the court he has also become a successful businessman, boosting his net worth to $1.5 billion (£1.33b) thanks in part to his Jordan Brand with Nike and several restaurants. 

His home for more than 20 years, this Chicago estate couldn't get much more flashy. Named Legend Point, it has been completely customised for the NBA superstar. Accessed by towering gates bearing his famous shirt number 23, the estate was built by the sportsman in 1995 on land he bought for $2 million (£1.66m) in 1991. 

As you would expect from the most famous basketball player on the planet, the lavish home is full of every amenity you could think of. The extensive outdoor area includes a covered infinity pool with a retractable roof and walls, plus an entertaining area with a fireplace, grill and wet bar. Spread over 32,000 square feet, the main house has everything a sporting legend would ever need. 

Having been on and off the market for the last nine years, with the star struggling to shift the unsellable home, the asking price started at $29 million (£24.1m) and most recently was priced at $14.9 million (£12.4m). With Jordan still reportedly paying over $100,000 (£83.2k) in annual property taxes, the house is now off the market.

After practising tennis with her father as a child, Serena Williams turned professional in 1995 and went on to have a glittering career alongside her sister, Venus. The star has won a total of 23 Grand Slam singles titles, more than any man or woman during the open era, and four Olympic gold medals. In September 2017 she gave birth to her first child, Olympia, and later that year she married her partner Alexis Ohanian. With a net worth of $41.3 million (£33m), the star has invested in some impressive homes over the years.

After the sale of her Palm Beach Gardens home in Florida, Serena bought this waterfront estate in Jupiter, Florida for $8 million (£6.6m) in September 2020. After revealing in an interview with Architectural Digest that it was the first property she had bought away from her sister Venus, the star revamped the old home putting her elegant signature style in every room.

One of the greatest boxers of his era, Floyd Mayweather Jnr. has won championships across five weight divisions over the course of his career. He announced his retirement in 2017 after his fight with UFC champion Conor McGregor, with a record of 50-0. However, most recently he claimed his net worth had exceeded $1.2 billion (£998m) after his fight with YouTuber Logan Paul earned him $100 million (£83.2m) alone, according to TalkSport. Also a keen property buyer, due to investment returns, he reportedly makes millions every week. 

As well as having mansions in Beverly Hills and Las Vegas, the boxing legend added to his property portfolio in August this year with this waterfront property on Palm Island. After turning professional at the age of 14, powerful Russian-born tennis star Maria Sharapova went on to win four of the major tennis tournaments (the US Open, French Open, Wimbledon, and the Australian Open) becoming the 10th woman to earn a Career Grand Slam after her French Open victory in 2012. She won it again in 2014, but struggled with shoulder pain after an injury and surgery, and was banned from playing the sport for 15 months in 2016 for taking heart medication that had been added to the list of banned substances. She announced her retirement after 28 years at the top of her sport with a reported net worth of $325 million (£270m).

Not long after announcing her retirement from pro tennis, Maria Sharapova splashed out $8.6 million (£7.15m) on this stunning pastoral ranch in Santa Barbara, California. The Grand Slam superstar can now spend her days exploring the five acres of stunning grounds as well as nearby community of Manhattan Beach which is known for its eateries, charming shopping and stunning mansions. 

Sitting in the coastal neighbourhood of Summerland, which is high up in the Santa Barbara foothills, the spacious home boasts a main Balinese-inspired house. Shaq’s former manse, known as ‘Shaq-apulco’ according to Realtor, underwent extensive renovations costing approximately $40,000 (£33.3k) to help it sell—removing much of his personality from the interiors. Baseball superstar Alex Rodriguez hit nearly 700 home runs over the course of his 22-year career. Having won three MVP awards, the New York Yankees star retired in 2016. Since making the move to the broadcasting booth, A-Rod is now an analyst for ESPN, having just renewed his contract in January 2021. Over the course of his playing career, the star earned a reported $450 million (£374m) in salary, which is still flooding in thanks to his deferred payment plan with the Texas Rangers that doesn't end until 2025. The five-bedroom pad was never on the market, so us property snoops can’t take a peek at the interiors unfortunately. McEnroe and Smyth also own two more Malibu vacation homes in a discreet gated community atop Paradise Cove, purchased in 2013 and 2015 for a total of nearly $25 million (£20m) according to Dirt.
