While many of us worry a little about an impending day of reckoning – pandemics and nuclear threats certainly don't help – celebrities and the super-rich seem even more concerned than the rest of us mere mortals.

When it comes to hunkering down in the face of a future apocalypse, these famous faces are particularly prepared to see out a multitude of disasters in the lap of luxury.

Let’s begin with mega-talented rapper and songwriter Post Malone, who is reportedly worth an equally mega $50 million (£39.6m) as of 2024.

Since 2013, Malone has made waves in the music industry with his unusual blend of musical genres and heartfelt lyrics. But how seriously does the Hollywood’s Bleeding artist take his own safety and how prepared is he for a global disaster?

Well, pretty prepared as it turns out. In 2022, a clip of Malone from 2018 describing the US government as “the biggest lie in the world” went viral on TikTok. The suspicious star went on to urge people to “move out to the country”, which is what he decided to do himself.

According to TMZ, Malone purchased this Utah home in early 2018 for around $3 million (£2.4m). In a 2017 podcast, recorded when the musician was in contract to buy the property, Malone spoke about his plans to make the residence apocalypse-proof.

"So I'm just buying a place out in the sticks. I'm building underground... It's gonna be fun until the world ends, but whenever the world ends, it's gonna be functional," the star revealed. 

Located in Salt Lake City, the residence spans almost 13,000 square feet and is situated on nearly seven acres of land with its own secure steel entrance.

Originally built in 1986, the singer’s compound boasts canyon, mountain and city views – unless you’re in the proposed underground bunker, that is.

Once inside, should you manage to breach the entrance, you’ll find five bedrooms, seven bathrooms and a gourmet chef’s kitchen. Not bad for ringing in the end of the world.

Luxurious fixtures and materials are found throughout the mansion, from floor-to-ceiling glass walls to polished marble floors and a river rock fireplace.

What’s more, the secure Utah hideout features plenty to keep its residents entertained when they resurface, thanks to its basketball court, swimming pool, hot tub and outdoor kitchen.

Nestled into the hillside, the mansion truly is a slice of luxury in the midst of the remote Utah wilderness.

Former professional fighter Ronda Rousey is our next safe house celeb. Having been a standout star of WWE and UFC, as well as a bronze medal Olympic judo winner, Rousey was the first female inducted into the UFC Hall of Fame.

Thanks to her stellar career, she's worth a reported $14 million (£11.1m) as of 2024. So why did she end up buying an isolated piece of land in California when she retired?

Ronda and martial artist husband Travis Browne bought themselves a ranch, which they named Browsey Acres, in Rousey’s birthplace of Riverside, California.

During filming for an episode of Hot Ones, the Olympic medal winner joked that the couple was preparing for a zombie apocalypse, but later clarified they were just intent on living off the land and becoming self-sufficient.

Thanks to the fighting champion’s YouTube channel, her millions of fans regularly get a glimpse inside Rousey and her husband's life on the ranch and the couple’s daily routines.

On her website, Ronda describes the ranch as an opportunity to get “our apocalypse training wheels.” 

The pair have poured their energy into cultivating the land and populating it with chickens, goats and even a bull.

Ronda has shared videos instructing others how to create what she terms a "grocery garden" full of vegetables and herbs. She's also introduced fans to the tiny puppy who will grow into the farm's guard dog and posted clips of the inquisitive deer who wander into her garden.

Most recently, green-fingered Ronda planted milkweed in her large yard after hearing about the dwindling monarch butterfly population. The plants are a favourite source of nourishment among the species' caterpillars and her efforts to create a micro-habitat for the insect were surprisingly successful!

Rousey's website is regularly updated with articles and videos documenting her life, including her fulfilling life on the ranch.

Our next doomsday prepper may come as little surprise. Multi-award-winning rapper Kanye West, worth $400 million (£316m) in 2024, is known for his controversial opinions and propensity for conspiracy theories. 

According to unverified sources, the musician has aspirations to create a disaster-proof bunker to help his family survive the end of the world. 

While the singer owns two ranches in Wyoming – one complete with an underground bunker to prepare for a world-ending situation – he may be more protected in his Brutalist-inspired concrete home in Malibu. But how much did he pay for the privilege?

During his divorce proceedings from Kim Kardashian, Kanye reportedly paid almost $57.3 million (£45.3m) in an off-market deal for the Malibu retreat in September 2021, skimming around $18 million (£14.2m) off the original asking price. 

The Yeezy mogul’s bunker-style home boasts 3,665 square feet of living space, all designed to his specific minimalist taste thanks to Tadao Ando, one of Japan's leading contemporary architects.

Ando also designed Beyoncé and Jay-Z's $200 million (£158m) concrete compound in nearby Paradise Cove, which was named the most expensive home in California's real estate history at the time of sale.

The top floor of West's property features an extravagant master bedroom with floor-to-ceiling glass walls that frame views out across the ocean. 

However, it seems Ye grew tired of the vista as the home was placed back on the market in December 2023 and listed for $53 million (£42m). 

The lower listing price is said to reflect "the need for the interior finishes to be replaced," according to listing agent Jason Oppenheim of the Oppenheim Group. "On the positive, it can be brought up to 2024 standards – it was built about 10 years ago.”

Since snapping up the pricey pad, Kanye gutted the structure – even going so far as to remove the electricity and windows from the house.

"He wanted it to be like a bomb shelter," Kanye's former contractor Tony Saxon told Sky News. "Ye said to me, 'This is going to be my bunker, my place to go off the grid and hide'."

As of September 2023, Kanye was being sued by Saxon, who alleges the singer owes him $1 million (£791k) after he forced him to sleep on the floor of the property and work in dangerous conditions during the renovation. Kanye denies the allegations.

American actor, screenwriter and black belt martial artist Steven Seagal is no stranger to the concept of the apocalypse.

With a 2024 net worth estimated to be around $14 million (£11m), the Michigan-born Hollywood star has reportedly been training in martial arts since he was 17. But has he been training for doomsday?

Snapping up this bulletproof Arizona estate for $3.5 million (£2.8m) in 2010, he certainly appears prepared for some sort of global disaster.

Stretching across almost 12 acres of the Sonoran Desert in Scottsdale, the hideaway is perched around 3,000 feet above sea level.

If you manage to infiltrate the bulletproof glass walls that surround the whole compound, you’ll find a grand total of five bedrooms, five-and-a-half bathrooms and a guesthouse for safety-seeking visitors of the Hard to Kill star. 

This great room makes the most of its sweeping views – the perfect vantage point for spotting approaching zombies come the apocalypse. 

Should Seagal come Under Siege, he has plenty of amenities to sustain himself, not least in the stylish, state-of-the-art kitchen, which comes complete with a walk-in pantry and breakfast bar – perfect for post-apocalypse refuelling.

Another kitchen awaits outside, next to an infinity pool and hot tub set into a stone patio that boasts views of the desert and any potential attackers beyond.

Seagal listed the retreat for sale multiple times from 2012 onwards. He finally sold it for almost $3.6 million (£2.8m) in July 2021. 

Since reportedly dealing with stalkers in her previous homes, Grammy-winning singer Rihanna is said to be another fan of a super-secure residence. Harbouring a 2024 net worth of $1.4 billion (£1.1bn), the star has plenty of capital to invest in a fortified home. 

In fact, when Rihanna returned to the West Coast of the US in 2014, she began renting out a rather unusual home in Los Angeles nicknamed the 'Fortress'.

Built from concrete and steel, the 12,000-square-foot property was designed by David Lawrence Grey Architects.

The Barbadian star paid a hefty $60,000 (£47.5k) a month for the pleasure of residing in the super-secure home, which has been fitted out with an array of security features. 

Featuring towering, 60-foot-high ceilings and huge walls of glass, the property was built in 1994 in the distinct Bauhaus style. 

The entryway leads through to an array of cavernous living rooms that have been finished in stone, concrete and steel, as well as the latest state-of-the-art amenities and gadgets.

There's certainly no scrimping on security features either. Each of the home's seven bedrooms requires key fob entry, while the master suite encompasses a secret panic room concealed behind a bulletproof door that slides down from the ceiling.

There's also the usual mega-mansion facilities throughout, such as a chef’s kitchen, guesthouse and gym.

Rihanna would have enjoyed a more secure cinematic experience in the fortress’s bespoke movie theatre too, which features suede walls and a bar.

While the singer eventually moved out, she clearly fell for the area and bought another Hollywood Hills mansion in the neighbourhood in 2017.

If you fancied yourself a fan of the mother-daughter duo Joan and Melissa Rivers, you may have admired the house from reality shows Joan & Melissa: Joan Knows Best? and In Bed With Joan. But you might not have known it came onto the market in October 2021, and that the listing images revealed a hidden secret within one of the property's wardrobes…

When Joan passed away in 2014, Melissa was the star's primary heir and as of 2024, she has a net worth of $100 million (£79m).

Melissa sold the six-bedroom Pacific Palisades house from the duo's reality shows in 2019 for $5.2 million (£4.1m). However, with its TV star associations and ocean views, it’s no surprise the celebrity family home went on to sell for an inflated $8 million (£6.3m) when it hit the market again in November 2021.

The traditional property may seem homely and down to earth, but a surprise awaits in the master suite. Concealed here among the shelving is access to a safe room, disguised as an unassuming walk-in wardrobe – ideal for escaping crazed fans or, indeed, the impending cataclysm.

What’s more, residents can enjoy ocean views from their infinity pool atop a newly enlarged entertaining patio that features a built-in barbeque, fireplace, swimming pool, spa, sports court and trampoline. Perfect for wiling away the post-apocalyptic days.

Record producer and NWA superstar Dr Dre certainly isn’t one to shy away from fans and acclaim, but his real estate portfolio is another story.

Worth a massive $500 million (£395m) as of 2024, the Grammy-winning rap legend decided to purchase one particular palatial property with a strangely archaic security feature…

Bought in 2014 from former celebrity power couple Tom Brady and Gisele Bündchen, Dre snapped up this Brentwood palace in California for a neat $40 million (£31.6m).

The famous former owners reportedly spent close to that sum remodelling the home, which comes complete with a privacy-friendly moat and cobblestone bridge. 

Designed by Richard Landry, the 13,890-square-foot home sits on almost four acres of land and offers five bedrooms and nine bathrooms.

While other parties were understandably fighting to put offers in on the property, as reported by TMZ, the ‘Nuthin' but a "G" Thang’ star pipped them to the post.

Although Brady and Gisele offered the property furnished, Dre reportedly opted to deck the house out with his own furniture.

We’re sure he was more than happy with the bones of the property, including the huge antique shuttered windows, the seven fireplaces and the master bedroom balcony featuring an outdoor bathtub.

While he may not be preparing for the end of the world, Dre is probably kept busy tending to the koi fish that inhabit his moat.

That’s not to say the property isn’t ready for an apocalyptic power cut, however. It reportedly comes with a solar panel system that powers the house and a greywater system that irrigates the lawn and supplies the pond and waterfalls.

Facebook co-founder Mark Zuckerberg boasts a 2024 net worth of $183.7 billion (£145bn). A mainstay on the list of the top five richest people in the world, the Facebook founder has three children with his wife Dr Priscilla Chan. With a family and large fortune to protect, it's no wonder the tech guru is reportedly building an enormous underground bunker to flee to in times of trouble.

The breathtakingly beautiful island of Kauai in Hawaii is Zuckerberg's location of choice to see out doomsday.

He spent almost a decade accumulating land along one of the island's pristine coasts and now owns a sprawling 1,400-acre compound encompassing houses, treehouses and tunnels, according to an investigation by Wired.

The land, highlighted here in purple, lies on the northeast side of Kauai and is known as Koolau Ranch. Intriguingly, public planning records seen by Wired suggest Zuckerberg and Chan are building a 5,000-square-foot bunker beneath the vast compound. It will reportedly include a blast-resistant door and an escape hatch, as well as its own energy generator and food supplies.

As if that's not enough, the property is patrolled by security guards who scan the surrounding beaches on ATVs. 

Above ground, the compound, pictured here, will reportedly feature upwards of 12 buildings, including two mansions with a combined floor space of 57,000 square feet. Interestingly, they'll house elevators, offices, conference rooms and an industrial kitchen, while many of the compound's doors will be soundproofed and keypad-operated – we'd like to see a zombie try to get around that!

Elsewhere, there are plans afoot to construct 11 treehouses connected by rope bridges, a gym, multiple swimming pools, a sauna, hot tub and tennis court. 

Zuckerberg's grand plans haven't gone without controversy. The purchase of the land itself – totalling $170 million (£134m) – has sparked outrage among locals, who have alleged that Zuckerberg has blocked public beach access, according to Wired.

In 2017, Zuckerberg's lawyers filed lawsuits against hundreds of locals who may have owned an interest in pockets of land on his estate, according to The Guardian. The mogul eventually dropped the suit and the parcels of land were sold at auction.
