Inside real-life Barbie dreamhouses
Wisconsin's Gothic Barbiecore castle is for sale

Located in historic downtown Hudson, a city in St. Croix County, Wisconsin, this Gothic Barbiecore castle has everything a pink fan could want, including oversized flamingos, pink glittery curtains and a pink bathtub that has been turned into a ball pool. Constructed in 1900, the striking historic home has certainly been given a modern makeover, and it's one that any Barbie obsessive will love. Let's take a closer look...
Designed for Barbie fans

Stretching 5,611 square feet, the property currently belongs to Brooke Fleetwood, who owns a range of short-term Airbnb rentals in Hudson. According to StarTribune, Brooke recently decided to transform her former goth-themed property from "dark and stormy to pink and glittery" – all to appeal to Barbie fans. Brooke tested a dozen paint colours before coming up with her own version of Barbie pink for the formerly green exterior of the home, as well as all of its interior spaces.
Flamingos, cupcakes and carousels

While the entrance hall boasts pink walls and a staircase, as well as oversized pastel candlesticks, the living room now benefits from a neon Playboy sign, a carousel horse and a looking glass-style mirror à la Alice in Wonderland. The adjacent dining room is decorated with large avocados, pink glittery baubles and full-size flamingos, while the kitchen has a sweet cake theme, complete with a large 'Barbie' sign on the wall.
Get a Barbie glow up

Other highlights include the home's top floor movie theatre and all-pink beauty salon decorated with large candy ornaments. The house has been leased out as a holiday home for some time, so there are currently two kitchens, two formal dining rooms and two living spaces – half of which are more traditional in style, with no sign of pink anywhere! Popular with hen parties, the house could easily be run as a business or turned back into a single-family home. Brooke even rented the place out for photoshoots, charging a minimum £82 ($100) an hour.
Gorgeously Gothic

There are four bedrooms on the second level and three on the top floor, including an enormous owner's suite with a private bathroom, walk-in closet and laundry. It even has its own dance pole – read into that what you will! A house full of themes, the master, and a few of the other bedrooms, look more like they belong to the Volturi coven of Twilight fame, thanks to their Gothic décor and Vampire-inspired details. Our favourite bedroom is this vermilion red one, though, which feels ghoulishly Gothic.
Pool party, anyone?

Of course, no Barbie dreamhouse would be complete without an outdoor space for soaking up the sun. The house benefits from a lovely backyard, equipped with a hot tub, a small swimming pool and a dining space for romantic meals with Ken. From some spots, you can soak up views of the St. Croix River, too. There's also a covered front porch from which you'd be able to wave to your fellow Barbies each morning. If you've fallen in love with this brilliantly bonkers home, then it's for sale right now for £900,000 ($1.1m).

The Barbie movie Dreamhouse

In a recent house tour with Architectural Digest, actress Margot Robbie took viewers around the set of the Dreamhouse, created for the Barbie movie. Much of the magic of the set was inspired by the toy’s origin era – the late 1950s. The first Barbie came on the market in 1959 and director Greta Gerwig drew on the golden age movie musicals, which were in their heyday at the time.
An international pink shortage

The late '50s and early '60s also informed the mid-century modern interior design and furnishings for the Dreamhouse, which Gerwig wanted to be as simple, classic and beautiful as their original tiny plastic counterparts. “I can’t even tell you the meetings we had about pink,” adds Gerwig. In fact, the set required so much pink paint that it caused an international shortage of the colour, The Guardian reported.
Barbie's Malibu DreamHouse, California, USA

This whimsical Airbnb listing was created in celebration of the movie's American release. A one-off experience, Barbie handed over the keys to her Malibu Dreamhouse to boyfriend Ken, who invited some lucky guests to join him in the hot pink home for one night only in July 2023. Let’s take a peek at what the lucky houseguests got to enjoy during their exclusive stay...

Perched above the beach with panoramic ocean views, the replica Dreamhouse is a pink plastic paradise, with just a few added touches of "much needed Kennergy," according to the listing. This boyfriend-girlfriend blending is epitomised in the master suite, which boasts pink walls, pink carpets and a pink velvet headboard, but with a few cowboy accents, including a cowhide rug and a collection of cowboy hats hung over the bed.

In fact, if the lucky guests were feeling inspired to dude-up during their stay, Ken invited them to "take a spin through [his] awesome wardrobe to find your perfect beach fit." Once they sourced the Barbie outfit of their dreams from the impressive collection included in the fold-out wardrobe, the guests could check out their look at the Barbie vanity station, or in the full-length mirror positioned next to a full-size plastic pony. Anyone for a ride?

Ken also invited the guests to try out the disco dance floor, complete with light-up floor tiles, a disco ball and a massive stereo system, all overlooking the ocean, of course. The experience also came with access to a pair of Ken’s rollerblades – because he literally goes nowhere without them – enabling the guests to try their hand at Ken's favourite hobby. There was even a technicolour turntable for creating the perfect party playlist.

The guests no doubt left plenty of time for lounging by the infinity pool, too, which included a waterslide from the balcony of the home’s second storey. They could even challenge their guests to a "beach off", by grabbing a pair of Ken’s surfboards and taking to the waves. When they were ready to warm up after their dip, a luxurious poolside lounge area with a plastic firepit provided the perfect spot for sunbathing or "chillaxing".

They could even impress their guest by cooking up a storm in Ken’s poolside bar and barbeque area – but they likely had to provide their own snacks, since the kitchen only came equipped with plastic T-bone steaks! The lucky guests of Barbie's Malibu DreamHouse even got to take home a set of yellow and pink Impala skates and a surfboard as souvenirs. If only the DreamHouse was a year-round reality...
Barbiecore influencer's pink house, Curitiba, Brazil

This Brazilian social media star is the ultimate Barbie fan. Meet Bruna Barbie, a former lawyer and model turned full-time influencer, who made headlines in June for dropping nearly £164,000 ($200k) to turn her home entirely pink. In an interview with the New York Post, Bruna explained that her love of pink dates back to her childhood and that in her school days, classmates started calling her ‘Barbie'. Over the years, the nickname stuck and her passion for pink only grew…

Bruna shares her ‘pink life’ on Instagram, YouTube, and TikTok, across which she has a total of 23 million followers, with her videos averaging 40 million views. While Bruna’s content began with simple photos of her pink outfits, she eventually began sharing more details of her life, including her £163,000 ($199k) renovation project to turn her home pink from top to bottom. As a result, her following skyrocketed and she began to receive offers of opportunities like television appearances and sponsorship deals.

Bruna even paused her law career in order to focus on her new role as an influencer and her mission to create her very own pink doll’s house. Today, her furniture, upholstery, appliances, utensils, bathrooms and even her swimming pool are all pink. Pink decorative items line pink shelves, pink throw pillows adorn pink sofas, and pink dishes come sparkling clean out of a pink dishwasher – which stands between a pink fridge and a pink oven, of course!

Initially, Bruna had to sink a lot of her own money into the renovations. In one viral TikTok video, a painter arrives to give her home a pink makeover, painting the home’s exterior, roof, interior walls, floors, ceilings and even the patio area around the swimming pool with playful pink stripes. However, as her internet popularity continued to expand, Bruna explained that she has had to spend less on decorating, as companies will send her free pink items, hoping for promotion.

Bruna also regularly receives free pink make-up, clothing and accessories, which equip her already Barbiecore overloaded wardrobe, although she says she also looks to the likes of Elle Woods and Paris Hilton for fashion inspiration. This Pepto-Bismol-pink glam station would certainly suit any of the above style icons, and is where Bruna gets dolled up (pun intended!) for her content creation, which is now her full-time occupation. With the finished Barbie Dreamhouse as her backdrop, Bruna is able to churn out almost constant ‘pink life’ content across her five channels.

In another particularly popular TikTok video, Bruna throws a bucket of pink dye into her pool to tint the water, then turns on a bubble machine and lies back on a pink sun lounger. The video has 1.5 million likes, underlining how popular the pink princess’s content has become. However, Bruna does clarify that while she is inspired by Barbie, she doesn’t aspire to be her, pointing out that she’s actually pinker than Barbie herself. We didn’t know that was possible!
Barbie-themed Airbnb, Essex, UK

This Airbnb in the Essex countryside takes pink to a whole new level – flamingos and unicorns included! Known as Eaton House Studio, the listing describes the property as an “extremely large art installation” that “delivers fully bespoke work and leisure experiences in extraordinary surroundings.” With a tremendous amount of detail packed into every themed room, this property was clearly a labour of love. Let’s take a look around…

The home’s hallway immediately lets guests know what they are getting themselves into. Faux wisteria hangs from purple ceilings and blankets the walls, the lower portions of which appear to be papered in purple velvet. Twin ceramic leopards guard an opulent golden-grilled fireplace, over which the neon light motto ‘love is my religion’ blazes. To the left of the hallway, a purple velvet staircase with rhinestone-covered walls leads upstairs…

The home comprises a total of six bedrooms, including this pink fluffy master suite, which boasts a super king bed, crystal chandeliers and an adjoining pink ensuite. While the pastel shade of pink, which blankets this room from floor to ceiling, is slightly more subdued than the hues we’ve seen so far, it’s still an awful lot of pink.

This next bedroom breaks up the pink theme a bit with the addition of some baby blue accents. With its vaguely Victorian floral wallpaper, Louis XIV-style lighted vanity and retro blue record player, this room gives definite vintage vibes. Barbie does shabby-chic?

The other bedrooms are equally theme-oriented, one dripping from floor to ceiling with roses, another clad entirely in loud floral and leopard prints, and a third covered in red silk damask. Out on the landing, the overarching theme of hearts, flowers and pink glitter continues with this fold-out sofa bed, over which hangs a crystal chandelier with fluffy floral lampshades.

Back downstairs, one of the home’s two dining rooms is a blaze of crimson and fuchsia, with a twinkle-lit ceiling, large faux-floral displays and what appears to be a mysterious gold altar at the head of the table. The home is capable of accommodating up to 16 guests and is clearly designed for events like hen dos and influencer retreats, with a one-night stay costing a whopping £2,520 ($3.1k).
Barbie's beach house, California, USA

This Santa Monica Barbie beach house is an Instagram fever dream come true. With psychedelic floral decals, a neon colour palette and plenty of quirky bonus features, the funky six-bed, six-bath rental offers everything you need for a getaway of plastic perfection…for a shocking £467 ($570) an hour, with a ten-hour £4,673 ($5.7k) minimum.

That’s right, a stay in this Santa Monica beach house could certainly set you back a few pay checks, but on the bright side, the home is clearly designed for hosting large groups. The living room boasts plenty of colourful seating, with a '70s-inspired pink shag carpet and even a few lava lamps tucked into the corner. However, the giant surfboard hung over the staircase certainly won’t let you forget that you’re at a beach house.

The adjoining kitchen is the perfect place to whip up a big meal, with plenty of seating, colourful cabinetry and two massive refrigerators for storing enough snacks to keep you fuelled for a week of partying… or to feed a hungry camera crew.

In fact, the property’s listing makes it clear that it has been designed specifically with an eye to hosting photo and film shoots, which does provide some explanation for this unconventional room. The large open space includes multiple ‘zones’ decorated to depict different locations, including a Japanese-inspired bar, a retro-style living room, a pink kitchen and bedroom, and a beach. All of the artwork appears to be copied from a Barbie Dreamhouse box.

Upstairs, things get even more unusual in the master bedroom, which boasts an entirely pink colour palette, a flower-covered swing over the bed, a hanging bubble chair, and, yes, a raised stripper pole. This room definitely seems more geared towards content creation than a restful night’s sleep.

Outside, the property also offers a pool, a hot tub, a basketball court and a second-storey patio called ‘Ken’s Lounge.’ We’re not sure how much lounging is getting done at this property, though – if you’re paying £467 ($570) an hour, you want to make sure it’s a productive shoot.
