Though the vast majority of beautiful homes you see on the silver screen are little more than smoke and mirrors, some movie mansions are genuine properties. Fancy living in one of your favourite fictional worlds? These big screen homes are currently on the market.

Do you recognise this beautiful Malibu home from somewhere? Fans of the teen TV show The O.C. definitely will, because it “belongs” to comic book aficionado Seth Cohen’s on-screen family.

Though the real-life property looks completely different on the inside, the six-bedroom mansion is just as luxurious as the television show home. The gated 6,300 sq ft house boasts an outdoor dining area, hot tub, sauna and magnificent views of the ocean from its various floor-to-ceiling windows.

There are multiple dining areas throughout the property, including an outdoor BBQ and fireplace for al fresco dining with friends. Inside, the sunny breakfast area leads out onto the spacious patio through double doors and overlooks the pool.

Fans of The Godfather films will remember the murder of Michael Corleone’s brother, Fredo on a fishing trip. But this grisly plotline was filmed in stunning surroundings on the Fleur de Lac estate in Lake Tahoe. A selection of luxury chateaus were built in the 15-acre gated community and one of these properties is currently on the market.

Harry Potter’s birthplace is now up for grabs. This charming 14th-century property in Suffolk, England was chosen to be the location of the Potter family’s Godric Hollow home.

One of the most historically significant medieval houses in the UK, the cottage is known locally as the De Vere House and once belonged to the aristocratic De Vere family, who lived in the property between the 14th and 17th centuries.

The movie made this house look like a quaint little dwelling, but the De Vere house is actually a six-bedroom home, complete with three reception rooms and four bathrooms. Carved timber ceilings, original wall paintings and country-style furnishings keep the rooms feeling cosy, even if there are a lot of them!
