Interestingly enough, Trump turned the gilded potty down. In 2019, the artwork, so-called ‘America’, was moved to Winston Churchill’s birthplace in Blenheim Palace, where it was shockingly stolen. Three years later the culprits have still not been found and the mystery of the $4.8 million (£4m) toilet goes on...

The striking black and gold ensuite in the Maharani Suite at Jodhpur's historic Umaid Bhawan Palace Hotel gives the Eltham Palace masterpiece a run for its money when it comes to crowning the most luxurious Art Deco bathroom.

Just in case your eyes aren't too tired after looking at so much gold, here's another gilded bathroom. This one graces a French château-style property in Canterbury, Australia, which sold for around $8.5 million (£6.9m) in 2015.

This dazzling $3.5 million (£2.9m) washroom was built in 2001 by Law Sai-wing, a Chinese jewellery tycoon, in his famous Swisshorn Gold Palace in Hong Kong. The toilet, listed as the most expensive in the world by Guinness World Records, was crafted in solid 24-karat gold, and the ceiling is studded with thousands of gemstones.

The insanely wealthy gold magnate went one better in 2006 when he installed a showroom loaded with two tonnes of the yellow stuff, complete with a bathtub made from solid gold, 24-karat toilets and gold ingot walls. The cost? At the time it was said to have cost a staggering $38.5 million (£31m).

Floating Seahorse Villas in Dubai each have an underwater marble bathroom with floor to ceiling windows – an awesome luxury that definitely doesn't come cheap. One of the amphibious homes is currently on the market for $3.3 million (£2.6m).
