Bizarre room-to-rent ad offers a bunk bed share

With London rents sky-high, sometimes renters have to adjust their expectations, but half a bunk bed, really?

From shared beds to make-shift shed rooms, we thought we'd seen it all when it comes to the rental marketing. Oh how wrong we were...

This latest bizarre listing, which offers half a bunk bed to rent in London for £100 per week, must have warranted more than a few double-takes from renters scouring the ads on SpareRoom.

Bunk beds are fun when you’re young and you get to share a room with your sibling, and we can even tolerate them in hostels while backpacking. But as permanent sleeping arrangement for a grown-up? Not so much.

Close quarters

The accommodation is described as a 'spacious twin room’, but for £400 per month for one of the beds, it still feels a bit too steep to us.

The landlord does accept couples, but quite how two people could regularly sleep in a single bed – or worse, the top bunk – is another mystery altogether. No, more likely than not you'll be left sharing the space with the stranger renting out the other bed.

With little privacy and extremely close sleeping quarters, this isn't one for those who like their own space.

Worth the compromise?

According to the ad, the room is located in a safe and quiet residential area within walking distance of Hampstead Heath and Archway, plus you can reach central London by Tube in just 10 minutes which is a big bonus.

Bills and WiFi are included and you’ll have use of a bathroom, kitchen and ‘cosy’ living room. However, you'll have to pay £300 upfront, comprising a £100 deposit and two weeks’ rent, before moving into your snug accommodation.

But is it really worth it to share a bunk bed? It all sounds a bit too close for comfort to us...
