Iconic Christmas TV and movie homes and how much they would cost today

Here's what it would cost to snap up these familiar festive homes from the big screen

There are some TV shows and films that are as quintessentially Christmas as stockings, sprouts and the Queen's Speech.

Whether you're a diehard Downton Abbey fan or you just can't get enough of Elf, we know the characters and their homes like the back of our hands but have you ever stopped to wonder how much the characters might have paid for these much-loved addresses?

This year, estate agent comparison site GetAgent.co.uk has revealed the cost of some of the most iconic properties to grace our screens over the festive holiday.

From million-dollar mansions and modest flats to stately manors and quaint country cottages, let's have a look at how much they would set you back today...

Stacey's house in Gavin and Stacey, Barry, South Wales: £173,800

Is this the most famous house in Wales? Located on Trinity Street, in South Wales' Barry Island, this is the cosy terraced home of Stacey Shipman (Joanna Page) and her mother Gwen (Melanie Walters) in the hit comedy series Gavin and Stacey.

The house is currently occupied by resident Glenda Kenyon, who has reportedly welcomed around 13,000 fans to the property since the show first aired in 2007.

Stacey's house is the most affordable on the list at just £173,800, a touch over the average house price for Trinity Street, which according to Zoopla, is roughly £153,000.

Del Boy’s flat from Only Fools and Horses, London, UK: £395,780

Only fools wouldn’t recognise this next home. The fictional flat in Nelson Mandela House where Derek ‘Del Boy’ Trotter and his family lived in the sitcom Only Fools and Horses used real-life Harlech Tower as its exterior.

While Del Boy's home was supposedly in Peckham, Harlech Tower is actually located 13 miles away in the west London suburb of Ealing. Sadly, the flats are soon to be demolished as part of Ealing Council's regeneration project.

Today, Del Boy's flat is estimated to be worth just over £395,000.

Rosehill Cottage from The Holiday, Surrey, England: £528,200

This cute chocolate-box cottage was featured in the 2006 Christmas rom-com The Holiday as wedding columnist Iris Simpkins' (Kate Winslet) adorable dwelling in Surrey, England.

The film revolves around a festive house swap between Iris and Los Angeles business executive Amanda Woods (Cameron Diaz). Although Rosehill Cottage is very much fictional, the house it was inspired by, Honeysuckle Cottage near Dorking, Surrey, was on sale last year for £650,000.

Back on screen though, Rosehill Cottage would set you back a little less today at £528,200.

Will's bachelor pad in About a Boy, London, UK: £1 million

This next swanky pad is best known as the home of carefree bachelor Will Freeman (Hugh Grant) in the British comedy About a Boy. Freeman’s life changes when he meets lonely 12-year-old Marcus (Nicolas Holt) and they develop a brotherly bond.

The real-life location of Will's home in the 2002 film was actually an office building, found on St James's Walk in Clerkenwell, East London. A fake entrance was created for the film to disguise the property.

Will's fictional flat is estimated to be worth just over a million.

Natalie’s home in Love Actually, London, UK: £1 million

Although this property was only briefly featured in the legendary 2003 Christmas favourite Love Actually, it was certainly a scene-stealer. Hugh Grant plays David, the recently elected Prime Minister who falls for a member of his new staff, Natalie (Martine McCutcheon).

In true rom-com fashion, we see David knock on every door on Natalie's street to find her. In the film, Natalie’s house is supposedly in the “dodgy end of Wandsworth”, however, the real property can be found in Herne Hill, south London, where property prices average around £909,000, according to Zoopla.

In today's market, you could pick up Natalie's house for a slightly steeper £1 million.

Hobbs' family home in Elf, New York City, USA: £1.1 million

Festive film fanatics may remember this apartment. The 2003 film Elf follows Santa's not-so-little helper Buddy (Will Ferrell) on his journey from the North Pole to New York City in search of his father, Walter Hobbs (James Caan).

The Hobbs family live in this upscale Art Deco apartment located in the heart of Manhattan, where Buddy makes his iconic spaghetti breakfast. What's more, it's also the same building used in the Ghostbusters film.

With its prime Upper West Side location, it’s no surprise that the apartment commands an estimated value of just over a million.

Home Alone house, Chicago, USA: £1.2 million

This Colonial-style brick mansion is better known as the home of eight-year-old Kevin McAllister (Macaulay Culkin) and his family in the hit 1990 Christmas comedy Home Alone.

Located in the Chicago suburb of Winnetka, Kevin is accidentally left behind at the house by his family whilst they go on holiday. The 4,243-square-foot house comprises five bedrooms and four bathrooms, plus plenty of nooks and crannies for Kevin to hide and outwit the bumbling intruders.

In the real world, snapping up this impressive property will set you back a hefty £1.2 million.

Skyfall Lodge from James Bond, Scottish Highlands, UK: £2.2 million

Next up is the mysterious home of super-spy James Bond (Daniel Craig), featured in the action thriller Skyfall in 2012. In the film, the fictional house is situated in rural Glencoe in the Scottish Highlands.

The interior features classic British country lodge elements such as oil paintings, wood panelling, plenty of antique furniture and the extra addition of a secret priest hole which Bond uses to escape in the film.

Sadly for 007 fans, the house was actually a custom-built set located on Ministry of Defence land at Hankley Common in Surrey.

Back on screen though, Skyfall Lodge is valued at £2.2 million – aspiring secret agents had better get saving!

Miracle on 34th Street house, Illinois, USA: £2.8 million

Christmas film fanatics will know this grand house in Lake Forest, Illinois, as the dream home of six-year-old Susan Walker (Mara Wilson) in the 1994 Christmas classic Miracle on 34th Street.

The detached 5,960-square-foot house includes five bedrooms and seven-and-a-half bathrooms, more than enough space for Susan and her family, who end up living happily ever after in the gorgeous house.

While in reality, the lavish property is currently off the market, on the silver screen it would set you back £2.8 million.

The Crawley estate in Downton Abbey, Hampshire, UK: £137 million

This luxurious estate is best known as the Crawley family residence, featured in the BAFTA-winning period drama, Downton Abbey.

Highclere Castle, the real estate, can be found in Hampshire and was built during the 19th century by architect Charles Barry, known for rebuilding London's Houses of Parliament.

Although the estate is not for sale, fans can explore the ‘real’ Downton Abbey with a tour of the castle and surrounding gardens.

The lavish house tops the list as the priciest property in our round-up, estimated to be worth an eye-watering £137 million.
