Heating bills are no laughing matter at the moment, with global energy shortages leaving many households to face skyrocketing costs.

Regulator Ofgem recently announced that it is increasing the energy price cap by 54%, which will see bills rise by an average of £693 per year for a large number of homes from April.
But what if you didn’t have to pay for your heating at all for a year? That would ease the pressure, wouldn’t it?
Retailer Matalan has launched a competition that promises just that. The popular high-street brand is looking for a Dressing Gown Tester, and the lucky winner will receive a cash payment of £1,338 to cover their energy costs. According to Ofgem, the average energy bill will be £1,138 per year.
The winner will be sent four dressing gowns – a new one every week for a month – which they get to keep in return for assessing the look, feel and (most importantly) “snuggliness” of each design.
Aside from a cash handout, the winner will also receive a ‘cosy bundle’, which includes a large throw blanket, slippers, candles and a duvet and pillowcase set.
It’s the ultimate excuse for hunkering down for a little longer until the warmer weather arrives: “Sorry, I can’t make it out tonight, I’m testing a dressing gown.”
You have until 11.59pm on Monday 21 February to enter the giveaway and be in with a chance of getting your energy bills covered for the year.
If you are a UK resident, aged 18 or over, then all you have to do is fill in the online entry form. The winner will be chosen at random on 22 February and notified by email by 24 February.
