With the easing of lockdown restrictions from 29 March expected to allow either six people or two households to socialise in private gardens, there's never been a better time to give your backyard a makeover.
An inside secret with savvy shoppers and garden and interiors designers, Aldi’s money-saving bonanza is a must for anyone who wants to get more bang for their buck.
Aldi’s Specialbuys work like this: every Sunday and Thursday a selected range of limited-edition products are released at absurdly low prices.
Each drop is different and can include anything from kitchenware and home furnishings, to electricals and household gadgets, but all drops have one thing in common: once the stuff is gone, it’s gone.
Luckily, you can check out the Specialbuys up to a week in advance and order them online, so it’s worth setting a reminder on your calendar to make sure you snap up the bargains before someone else does. Aldi also has a newsletter that will let you know what’s coming up.
Here are some of our favourite garden buys available from Thursday 4 March…
Garden gadgets
A sort of catch-all garden tool for people who don’t have a huge shed or much storage space, this simple yet powerful tool is ideal for getting on top of garden maintenance after a winter of neglect.
A leaf blower, pruner, hedge trimmer, strimmer and grass trimmer all in one, your garden won’t know what’s hit it.
For those with larger gardens who are serious about growing, this lightweight tiller with an ergonomic comfort grip is great for turning over soil to create flowerbeds, vegetable patches, cultivate borders and even narrow rows between perennials.
Easy to manoeuvre around your garden, you’ll have a Titchmarsh-worthy garden in no time.
For the more eco-conscious among us, this 210-Litre Water Butt Set is a great way of storing rainwater for reuse across your garden. It comes with a downpipe filler kit to catch excess water, so you can wave goodbye to water wastage and slash your utility bills too.
Even the less green-fingered among us can see the value of a good pair of shears for trimming hedges and giving the lawn a quick tidy.
Perfect for tight corners, the cordless, handheld design makes it a lot easier to use than bigger tools – ideal for a quick tidy-up before last-minute garden guests arrive once restrictions are lifted.
Grow-your-own
We love this compact little greenhouse (also available in natural wood), perfect for growing all sorts of plants and vegetables all year round, and just look at the price.
Made from FSC-certified wood, it comes with polycarbonate glazing (much stronger than glass) and it's completely weatherproof. The only downside is you'll have to assemble it yourself.
Have you always wanted a herb garden or vegetable patch for growing your own food? Well, this raised wooden planter is perfect for gardens that don’t have existing beds.
Keeping everything contained, it’s easy to manage, looks good, and it might actually encourage some of the little ones in your household to help out.
Offering great storage for all those gardening supplies you need easy access to (gloves, pots, trowels etc), this bargain bench also provides a handy work surface for potting up plants. The side bar with metal hooks is the perfect spot to store smaller tools.
Alfresco living
These stylish rattan-effect chairs and matching table positively sing cocktail hour to us. The perfect space for an alfresco after-work drink or a distanced catch-up with a friend when restrictions allow, the neutral design will slot into any garden scheme.
And, in a stroke of design genius, the table and cushions can be stored inside the chairs when not in use.
Straight out of the pages of a glossy interiors magazine, this weather-resistant chair is so popular that they are limited to one per customer – it's even a favourite of Mrs Hinch herself.
Keep it on your patio and curl up with your favourite book at the end of the day, or put it in the conservatory for use throughout the year. Just make sure everyone knows this is your chair.
Ideal for an alfresco cookout in the sunshine, this snazzy 2-in-1 barbecue comes with two cooking areas, gas burners and a charcoal grill for that authentic flavour, plus hooks for utensils and even foldable side shelves.
Handily, it’s also on wheels, so you can move it around with ease when you want to change things up. The perfect purchase for the warmer weather!
