When is Black Friday?
This year’s Black Friday falls on Friday 23 November but many retailers offer discounts in the week leading up to the event. Cyber Monday is 26 November and offer more discounts, exclusively online.
What is Black Friday?
Originally Black Friday was an American tradition, but the shopping event – that takes place on the day after Thanksgiving – was introduced in the UK in 2010. It’s regarded as the first day of the Christmas shopping season and most retailers dramatically slash their prices to entice shoppers. Previously it’s been a one-day event, however, these days it’s possible to snap up bargains the whole week starting from Friday 16th November.
What can I buy on Black Friday?
Almost anything! Electric toothbrushes, furniture, TVs and home electricals but also most retailers are now participating which means DIY and decorating supplies, cleaning products and home furnishings are all discounted. There are some 'do's and dont's', scroll down to read them and don't forget to buy with a credit card if you can.
Buying with a credit card has added protection (you may have heard). Cashback credit cards let you earn something for things you were going to buy anyway, and new purchase credit cards let you avoid costly interest if you have to buy something now but can't afford it.
