Gorgeous homes for sale in Glastonbury

This beautiful Somerset town might be a world-famous festival hot-spot, but the property scene in Glastonbury isn't to be sniffed at either...

Well the good news is that, despite all its new-age charm and high profile music, you don’t need to be a rock star to be able to buy a home here. With the average house price costing a very affordable £242,601, it’s a great place to get a foot on the ladder.

Glastonbury’s appeal seems to stem from the area’s eccentricity, and legend has it that the nearby Tor hill has a long-standing association with the fairy folk. It's a location steeped in history too, from the 7th-century abbey to the fascinating remains of an Iron Age village.

But it’s nature here that has the most magic to offer. From springs and hills to ancient walking lanes, pretty orchards, meadows and historic lakes – the natural beauty of Glastonbury is the unsung star of the show.

Add to this the plethora of independent shops, warm community and excellent school choices and you’ll see why Glastonbury is such a thriving town. Far from being an annual nuisance, the town's eponymous festival brings welcome tourism to the area, boosting the local economy and allowing locals to live the rest of the year relatively undisturbed.

So how has such a popular town managed to retain such low house prices? Well, a town of city workers this is not. Bristol and Bath are almost an hour’s drive away and the nearest mainline station is Castle Cary, which is a half-hour drive from Glastonbury.

However, if a short commute isn't top of your priority list, we couldn’t imagine a prettier spot to call home. Even Nicolas Cage owns a place here!

Here are some of our favourite options on the market right now…

Two-bedroom apartment, Benedict Street, £125,000

This little bargain is the perfect first pad for a young couple and needs very little doing to it.

Situated on the ground floor, the flat offers two generous light-filled bedrooms, with a characterful bay window in the master room. You'll also benefit from a modern kitchen, large living space and a neutral bathroom.

Thanks to its central location, Glastonbury town centre is within easy walking distance and there’s valuable off-road parking available too.

If you're searching for a ready-to-go dwelling, this cute home is just the ticket.

On the market for £125,000 with Cooper and Tanner.

Three-bedroom house, Stag Way, £275,000

A fine family home that’s been beautifully cared for, this three-bedroom house nestled in a quiet cul-de-sac is a great find.

From the entrance porch, stairs rise to the first-floor landing where you'll find three ample bedrooms, with one served by an ensuite shower room, as well as a stylish family bathroom.

Located on the ground floor is a modern kitchen and spacious lounge, which boasts a square bay window, feature fireplace and glazed doors, which lead through to the dining room. Double doors link the dining room to a brightly lit conservatory, creating an ideal entertaining space.

Outside, young families will appreciate the sizeable garden, which offers plenty of space for children to play. Another great bonus is the double garage and drive, with parking for two cars.

On the market for £275,000 with Holland & Odam.

Four-bedroom house, Three Hill View, £391,500

If Glastonbury's rolling countryside is a big draw, then this is the place to appreciate it! Thanks to the elevated position of this modern home, residents are afforded the most breathtaking vistas over Somerset Levels and the meadows beyond.

The property is accessed by two flights of steps, separated by a viewing terrace. Almost every room here has a gorgeous outlook – soak up beautiful views towards the coast from the lounge or enjoy panoramas of the town and the abbey ruins from the double-aspect kitchen.

Elsewhere downstairs is a second reception room, which would work particularly well as a study.

Upstairs on the first floor is a generous master suite, again with far-reaching views and an ensuite shower room. A further three double bedrooms are also on this level, plus a family bathroom.

Outside against the backdrop of the rolling hills, forest steps lead to the landscaped terraced garden and floodlit decked seating area.

On the market for £391,500 with Cooper and Tanner.

Ten-bedroom house, Ashwell Lane, £685,000

If like many, you're longing to up sticks and move away from the rat race to launch your own business in the country, then this is your dream come true.

It might be a fixer-upper, but this 10-bed home is currently operating as a successful bed and breakfast business, so with a little TLC the potential is limitless!

On the southern slopes of Glastonbury Tor, this is a prime location for attracting tourists, or alternatively, you could convert this property into a fabulous private residence.

There’s also ample parking outside and a pretty front garden with a patio terrace and storage sheds.

On the market for £685,000 with Holland & Odam.

Seven-bedroom house, Abbotts Leigh, £1,200,000

Huge houses like this are a rare find in Glastonbury. Occupying an enviable location within the old grounds of Glastonbury Abbey, this palatial property comes with plenty of privacy, while only being a short walk to the High Street.

A Grade II-listed townhouse with a wrought iron entrance gate and gravelled drive, this is certainly a distinctive property and inside is just as grand.

Accommodation is of a very high standard and includes an entrance hall with exquisite marble floor tiling, as well as four reception rooms, a superb kitchen and breakfast zone, five bedrooms, three bathrooms, and even a cinema and games room.

We’re obsessed with all the gorgeous period details, including marble fireplaces, sash windows, cornicing and gorgeous wooden floors. Check out the concealed doors for the staff too!

Our favourite part? The luxurious orangery at the back that opens out onto the terrace. We couldn’t imagine a more fabulous place for a summer drinks party…

And if that wasn't enough, there’s also a three-bedroom detached cottage on the plot – perfect for guests or perhaps to rent out for a handy extra income.

On Rightmove for £1.2 million with Roderick Thomas.
