This thriving, diverse city in the West Midlands is compact in size but big in character

Named one of the best cities to raise a family last year, Wolverhampton is a bustling spot with plenty to offer homebuyers looking for the perfect place to settle down.

Located just north of Birmingham, the city itself is packed with shops, restaurants and attractions, as well as a museum, art gallery, theatre and a handful of National Trust properties. It’s also blessed with several good schools and a university, not to mention excellent rail and road connections.

In terms of property, much of the city centre itself is now flats, so look to neighbouring areas such as Tettenhall and Bridgnorth for quieter residential spots with more of a village feel that are still in close reach of the action.

With plenty of investment going on in the area, now is a great time to buy in Wolverhampton. It’s also a pretty affordable part of the world at the moment, with average property prices coming in at a mere £185,333.

Here are some of our favourite homes for sale right now…

Two-bedroom flat, The Gallery, Penn, £130,000

Located within a gated private development, this two-bed flat is found on the ground floor of a modern complex known as The Gallery.

Inside, the flat offers surprisingly spacious accommodation, including a living room, kitchen, two double bedrooms – one with an ensuite shower room – and a family bathroom.

While the decor is in need of a little refresh, this is a promising space that with a little TLC could become the perfect city pad.

The building benefits from a secure intercom entry system and gated parking, while the residents-only communal gardens offer a valuable outdoor space.

In close proximity to local amenities and transport links, this could be a great investment for young couples or those looking to get that first foot on the ladder.

On Rightmove with Dixons, accepting offers over £130,000.

Two-bedroom house, Newbridge Street, Newbridge, £164,950

Found within easy reach of the city centre, this two-bed terraced house offers plenty of clean modern living space.

On the ground floor, you'll find a beautiful lounge with a fantastic fireplace, ceiling covings and a bay window, as well as a dining room, kitchen and a handy utility room.

Upstairs are two double bedrooms and a bathroom, plus the property even includes a sizeable cellar that's currently used as a gym but could easily be converted into guest accommodation or extra living space.

The interior has been tastefully decorated in a neutral palette, so new homeowners can really but there own stamp on this property.

On the market for £164,950 with Thomas Harvey.

Four-bed cottage, Shaw Hall Lane, Coven Heath, £495,000

We might just be bold enough to say Peach Cottage is our favourite home on the market in Wolverhampton right now. With its semi-rural location and sprawling estate stretching over 1.5 acres, space is certainly on your side here.

From the private gated entrance, a gravel driveway sweeps through the beautifully maintained front gardens and up to the stunning home, where you’ll also find the garage block and laundry room.

Having been substantially renovated over the years, the home now offers beautiful accommodation over two levels, with a striking open-plan kitchen and dining room that commands your attention on the ground floor. We especially love the exposed brickwork and social breakfast bar!

Elsewhere is a lounge and a further reception room, while all four bedrooms are located on the first floor, along with a palatial bathroom boasting a roll top bath and walk-in shower.

Outside, a rear patio offers the perfect spot to soak up the summer sun, while the formal lawn houses a stable block and wood store. Surrounding the home are level paddocks and a kennel building, so if you’re after space for your four-legged friends you're in luck.

On the market for £495,000 with Berriman Eaton.

Four-bedroom bungalow, Broad Lane South, £500,000

With leafy surroundings, electric gates and a heated indoor swimming pool, this luxurious property in Broad Lane South really does have it all.

On the ground floor, a large living room with bay window offers a tranquil space to relax and unwind. From here, an archway leads through to the bar area which overlooks the swimming pool, so you can keep an eye on the kids with a cocktail in hand!

A refitted kitchen benefits from an adjoining utility room, while elsewhere a traditional dining room provides a more formal place to entertain. Four bedrooms and a bathroom complete the accommodation on offer here.

To the rear of the property, landscaped ground with a host of trees and shrubs create a wonderfully private place for a family to enjoy.

If you're looking for a property with development potential, this house could be just the ticket – the large plot has land to the side and rear so there's plenty of space to extend.

On the market from £500,000 with Edwards Moore.
