A seemingly ordinary suburban home, you won’t believe what spooky surprises lie inside...
At first glance, this 19th-century bluestone mansion in Adelaide, South Australia, might look like any other neighbourhood house, but we’re fairly sure the neighbours don’t come around for tea too often.
While the shuttered windows and quaint veranda may paint a charming picture, there's something a little Hitchcock about this historic home, but we can't quite put our finger on it...
Up for auction with Toop & Toop, the first sign that something might be amiss is the forboding agent's note in the listing: "If you are a scaredy cat, don’t come... brave people only".

The heritage house was built around 1856 by Englishman William Uren, who had moved from Helston, Cornwall, eight years before. A merchant who imported leather goods, Uren chose this spot for its proximity to nearby Port Adelaide where his products would arrive.
Fast-forward to the present day, and the property has been in the same family since 1977. While Uren may have been a serious businessman, it seems the current owners have a slightly more playful (and macabre) outlook on life. Make no mistake though, this eerie estate is definitely not for the faint-hearted...

First impressions are far from terrifying – stepping across the threshold and into the large hallway, you're met by original polished floorboards and characterful chintzy wallpaper with an authentic vintage feel.
We love the traditional bathroom with its green roll-top bath, green and white checkered floor tiles and rustic wood detailing. Don't get too comfortable though...
In one of the bedrooms, a stack of old suitcases hints at the home's history, while busy foral wallpaper adds a certain country charm. There is definitely, absolutely nothing sinister about the unusual skull-topped cane in the umbrella stand or the framed black and white photo on the wall.
The sitting room, complete with a grand marble fireplace and psychedelic carpet, harbours a few more warning signs of what's to come. What's that we can see peeking out of the hearth?
Outside, the view is seemingly less sinister, with a large outdoor pool, shaded terrace and dining area – big bonuses for a prospective buyer. But that's not all...
That's right, along with the five bedrooms and several receptions, there's also a small chapel, complete with red stained glass windows, that's currently used as an annexe. Nothing strange about that in the slightest.
However, it's below ground level in the cellar rooms beneath the house where things start to get really unnerving.
Oh. Oh, that’s a bit weird. Ghoulish figures from beyond the grave seem to have taken up residence here, along with a few fanged bats to keep them company.
It’s OK, maybe the other room will be bett..aah! Decked out with deep purple curtains, this spooky boudoir is home to a coven of wizened witches – and they brought their army of spiders with them.
But we think this barren room with a child-sized knitted doll slumped in a red wooden chair is perhaps the most terrifying of all. Let's get out!
